It’s a bit vague at the moment. Why didn’t the ref book Holgate?

At the moment Holgate reacts is the point Firmino face is obscured by camera. Does the ref have a recording mic?

We are all reasonable. Due to past experiences it's clearly possible Firmino said something racist. If proven I'd want him gone, because it's disgusting and I don't want a footballer THAT dumb to do it while a ref holds you lol.

It's equally possible it was a misunderstanding. It'll be put forward as such and Holgate will accept that.

It's also just as possible Holgate thought he was on a red and played the race card to get out of it.

People/footballers are capable of anything. Some on either side are desperate it's 1 or 3.

Personally I'm hoping it's 2 so no one comes out of it an utter ****.

If he said something wrong we all agree he should be punished.

But, why was the initial incident which is the cause of this not dealt with at the time, and will there be any repercussions.

Refs and the FA can't justify shoving like that during matches can they.

We will see what the report says on what or wasn't said before we should comment on that.

For now all we can comment on is the shove which wasn't punished.

I agree. It's like if firmino had got up and punched him. Both would have been punished.

Honestly? The ref freaked because he didn't hear the alleged insult, freaked when told because he knew he couldn't punish Firmino for something he didn't hear but was terrified at the idea it will be found out he punished a guy who just got racially abused

Not right but I understand the panic and decision to do basically nothing and leave it for others to sort.

If Firmino does end up having been racist can we PLEASE tell any south American players that if angered just punch the opposition player.....apparebtly more socially acceptable and will get a smaller ban.....

    Yep.

Like eye gouging is acceptable lol.

If nothing is deemed to have been said I hope he gets done for the shove as well as the false allegation or where the **** does our sport go if you can make false claims all the time.

Quite right Carl, however it is usually assumed that this is the case. I'm curious as to what racial stereotype could be thrown around in this situation.
I do fully agree with your last sentence - let's wait and see before jumping to conclusions. Sadly, I think this advice has come too late for many people -including several influential media types.

There's a split second in that confrontation, talking of victim-blaming, when Holgate obviously thinks that as soon as Madley calms Bobby down he's in big trouble. He damn well knows the truth, and if the MUFA don't act retrospectively with a long ban for violent conduct AND subverting the rules of the game then, well they're still the MUFA.

What? On the football field it literally is the case. You will get less of a ban for violent conduct (minimum 3) than calling them a racist name. (Minimum 5)

In the real world it's quite rightly the opposite.

So apparently.... in football violence is more acceptable than racism.

I understand the historical reasons why but it doesn't make it any less true.

imo you have on one hand

    a) sneaky elbow from firmino in holgate ribs

    b) young lad pushes offender in self defence who dives over boards

    c) firmino charges young lad threatening to kill him

    d) ref has to restrain firmino

    e) foul language is used.

    f) young lad is racially abused in final breath of firmino before he is hauled off.

    on the other hand....

    a) idiot gives a pen and is seeing red and thuggishly assaults firmino pushing him into a solid hoarding.

    b) idiot is dying to throw himself down but ref stops firmino who is chattering away like Jose Mourinho talking to a woman.

    c) idiot mistakes Portuguese for racial abuse or deliberately makes up a racial slur to try get firmino sent off.

that's today's society. all lined up on extremes. maybe we might actually get some truth in a timely fashion.

it's obvious to me that you

    a) lay down and clutch your face Kala hazard Amy time anyone does anything and don't get up til ref sends the guy off.

    or

    b) break his leg aka mori last year. max 3 matcha for a shocking tackle.

And save himself from any punishment when the ref has finished calming Bobby down.

The main winner from all this is Fat Sam whose abysmal and ineffective football has gone under the radar
