They're not the same, but the degree of contact is similar, at least in most people's eyes. You're probably not going to believe me but I half agree with you with the C-L Lovren incident - there was contact in the thigh region that was more likely to send him over than the push. However, he also leant into Lovren to instigate the contact, imo. Lala felt hands on him front and back and fell over.
When you routinely get players screaming **** off at each other and the ref I think it's a bit much for something like that to get punished. As for Holgate, I can't imagine how he got away with it.
Martin Samuel in the Fail is reporting that Bobby said 'Loco' and the old 'Son of a whore' in Portuguese. Well they set the precedent for that one when they let Evra off with worse to get to Suarez. Btw, what 'colour' is Firmino? He looks native American to me, possibly even Creole. Talk about a diversion - what Holgate did was the very definion of uncontrolled, dangerous contact. I said instantly after the Lovren one that it was a pen, as did most other posters on here. Nevertheless, you still kept on saying we 'all' said it wasn't. The Lalla one was no pen, but as Samuel says (and I rarely agree with that ****), Holgate stuck his arms around him every bit as much as Lovren did to Calvin Loony. Never a pen though.
That really was dangerous in that position, I have seen it before when players are trying to slow themselves down but that was a definite, needless push.
As I said, the ref clearly indicated for a push at the time. The thigh contact was on his blind side so there's no way he could have seen it. The thing is, it is a contact sport as we keep saying - it isn't necessarily a foul every time a player ends up on the deck. The reason I didn't think that it was a pen was because imo it was a coming together of two players in the aforementioned contact sport. When players lean into each other, or barge each other or whatever, they should just accept the outcome of a physical challenge and get on with it, not throw themselves over at every opportunity. However, as luvgonzo pointed out, his young lad was being coached to do just that - so there's not much hope.
Honestly can't remember any of you saying it was a definite pen, I do remember lots of you saying Lovren was stupid to give the ref a decision to make.

That's wrong, if true, but I couldn't be arsed about his views on the pen (I sort of agree with them), but what enraged me watching Shearer was that to try and mask his disappointment that we weren't getting beaten he did all this quasi-sagacious head nodding about the Holgate incident and said 'We don't know what he said to make Holgate do that, but it was obviously something. It obviously is advantageous to pretend you've been abused to deflect things when you're totally out of order when Madely is the ref.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that, what is he supposed to do, throw his hip out to indicate it? I think the ref indication was of a push/knocking off balance. Again, it all comes down to opinions, ours and refs and soon to be the all seeing VAR

Apparently it's not the puta bit but jyst after. Sorry but there were 6 players of both teams and the ref literally in front of him with a hand on him the entire time. You see later that the ref tells Holgate he didn't hear it. Not remotely believable, didn't understand it more likely. There is no way his mic didn't pic every word up though. But if they were recording (I thought they did now?) Why would he have to pass it on to the 4th official?
Yup they started recording and storing the mic pick ups after clattenburg accusations. So one way or another this should be cleared up quickly.
Ftr i dont think Klopp is saying the two penalties are literally the same two incidents, i strongly think he is saying it is the same that neither were penalties. Any misunderstanding can be put down to cultural differences
My Spanish A level, brainy niece said he called him a 'puta', which apparently means bitch. You can see why the ref took no action against Holgate then, even after he dangerously threatened Bobby's career. Being called a bitch is a terrible thing. Btw, has Oliver Holt said he definitely heard him racially abuse him yet, even though he was in Dubai at the time?
