Fun fact countries that grow cane sugar always have better tasting soft drinks. When you hear someone on holiday saying even the Coke tastes different they are often correct.
Dunno about soft drinks but I was in Okinawa last year and there's sugar cane growing everywhere. They do make really nice brown sugar candy. They also make sweeties out of sweet potato.
