Match Day Thread Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United

  1. Mike Dean is a disgrace. 3 clear penalties not-given and then he fails to add any time for Spammers timewasting.

Cant blame the team for that result. You can’t fault the effort. With a bit of luck we may have snuck it at the end. Just so frustrating that they got an absolute wonder goal out of nothing.

But he's biased towards Spurs. Some paranoiac Arsenal fans said so...

Hmmmmmm. A tired performance. Not what we needed. Disappointing that MP made no changes to a line up that was getting nowhere until they scored.

There's not much room for draws from here on in. Everton at home next.........more of the same, no doubt. We could do with a couple of signings in January. Preferably someone with pace and a goal threat.

Poor result. What an embarrassment West Ham are to premier league football.

Nothing wrong with playing a more defensive minded game that works to the strengths of the overall team (like Burnley do), but that was just a pathetic shower of **** from West Ham. Strolling around with no intention of attacking (or even getting out of their own half), every man behind the ball throwing themselves at every shot, and time wasting at any opportunity in between. <doh>

Pochettino has cost us the win.

Starting XI, no fear of God in the manager
for players, and obviously still no training
drills devised to practice dealing with the
busparquet even after half a season.

Agree on the tired performance, although it’s hard when one team is happy to defend all game. And it almost worked for them.
It’s our lack of pace on the break that is really noticeable in these sorts of games. Whenever there is a chance to finally get a 5 on 5 or similar, we always seem to stop and let the rest of their team get back behind the ball. It’s so frustrating.

To my mind, dropping Eriksen deeper would help move the ball forward faster and picking a defence splitting ball from deep or having a player like Barkley, who can make long passes or run with the ball. Do we really need Sissoko and Dier against a team that's going to have 10 men behind the ball?

Love Son’s reaction at how gutted he was with the draw.
But of a random question, but does he still have to do his military service? It seems to have gone a bit quiet on that front.

I'm a huge fan of Pochettinno and he gets a lot more right than wrong but he needs to take a look at himself tonight.
We all know Sissoko is a poor player but when teams attack us he's a useful outlet with his pace but when he has to think or be creative he just takes the easy option playing it sideways or backwards
Why wasn't he taken off even at HT ? Bring Lamela on or Dembele.
It took until West ham scored for him to make a change.

What was said at HT because we were even worse from 45-60 ??

Poch will no doubt say that we dominated and point to the stats and say we were very unlucky but let's face it apart from some occasions where the ball nearly ran to Kane or penalty calls we didn't really create many clear cut chances.

Tired performance with a lack of energy until it was too late, and a real lack of tempo and urgency for far too much of the match. Why we took so long to haul Sissoko with Winks and Dembele on the bench is beyond me.

That said, the ref was poor once again, and we definitely didn't deserve to lose. But there was a lot more that could have been done to take three points from that game.

Glad I missed that one. Can't remember which pundit said it but they're 100% right and the beeb feed mentioned it too:

Teams like West ham and managers like Moyes are killing football in this country, simple as. I can't recall a season where there were as many mind-numbingly boring matches. And the worrying thing is that as the gulf in resources and quality between the 'big 6' and everyone else grows, the boredom will only increase. West Ham, Everton, Newcastle, Burnley, Brighton, Swansea, West Brom...these teams just have zero interest in playing football, at least against the big 6 and that is a minimum of 42 games a season that will in all likelihood be utterly **** to watch. The equivalent of watching coastal erosion over centuries.

This isn't just us - they did the same to Arsenal and went one better against Chelsea. The only teams who look like they have the tools to overcome the buses are City and Pool, purely due to their pace and ferocity in attack. They are relentless most games and ultimately it pays.

People are bemoaning Wembley but in all honesty the writing was on the wall last season at the Lane and more than that this is clearly a league-wide problem that is plaguing every week of fixtures.

Unfortunately, the only solution is for the big sides to go out and buy faster and better players, which will in turn lead to the smaller sides going even more negative.

Everton and Soton will present very similar problems but I sincerely hope that Wanyama's return to the starting xi will allow us to commit more men forward more often, and that may help us solve this problem.

Unless Pochettino has the nous to overcome the
Wembley busparquet, as things are going it will
be more like 2011-12 or 2012-13 than the last
    two seasons.

Wanyama and Lamela getting up to match fitness will hugely help in my opinion.
Got to be honest but a draw after going behind in these circumstances is not the end of the world.
It'll make Pochettino look at his tactics, will make the players realise that they can overcome set backs.
I can't comment on the ref as I didn't see the game but we do need to get more than 10 attempts on target from a total of 25!
Well done to Son and to the players for digging in. It could be an invaluable point come May.
City away, Burnley away, Southampton at home, Swansea away and West Ham at home got us 10 points.
United got 9 and arsenal got 9 so it ain't been bad all told.
And thanks to everyone for their birthday good wishes...have had a great day

Only one team has overcome the bus parkers this season and that has cost a nearly half a billion pounds.

We deserved the 3 points overall and probably would have had them if not for another awful display from Mike `I`m trying to prove I don`t favour Spurs` Dean. I thought his performance was very pro Scam, he did nothing about their time wasting, yet again ignored our (good) penalty claims and gave them several dodgy free kicks, one of which was when Hernandez fell over after back-heeling Vertonghen, I know we can not rely on spot kicks but the amount we have had turned down this season is staggering, a lot of them have been nailed on also, we`ve been given 1 in 30 games played in all competitions..... not a lot for a team that regularly dominates most opponents in their defensive third.

I have finally lost patience with Sissoko, he does have some limited use on the counter attack but against teams that park the bus he may as well be sat in the crowd for all the use he is, Poch needs to learn when to use him or replace him. Tonight a player like Mahrez or Zaha could have made a difference, and to think we wasted £30m on a lumbering Carthorse 18 months ago, when at the same time (before the massive inflation) fees of 35m for Mahrez and 25m for Zaha were mooted.

Overall, 2 points dropped and we lacked a clinical edge and some luck, another day and we win that easy. Pray we don`t get Mike Dean again this season.

We could just as easily won the game with time to spare Eriksen Kane Son Dele all could have scored with mere fractions stopping them. I think I would be saying to the players, next time we have come out of the blocks at 100 mph and not allow them to settle at all. Half an hour of high speed effort.
