Looking proper bleak like. Hard to find any optimism. This was written all over us when the summer window shut. Fans should have been up in arms. Going to take some window to sort this but I expect nowt but another partial patch up with Coleman getting it in the neck. It's always groundhog day on wearside. We never ever learn.

We must be the most injury prone club in the country. Its been like this a few years now and all the injuries are mainly done during game time so we cant blame the training pitch or anything. I sometimes think we're cursed.

    You misspelt tragedy, pal.

I’d also replace “storm past” with “get trounced by”. We are in deep doo-doo as things stand. Shambles.

Small squad with extra games squeezed into tighter schedules. You'll know yourself how much more susceptible to injury you are when fatigued. When a fighter puts 100% into a fight, he's not right to do it again in a weeks time, rest is needed before building back up to target fitness. Different times scales involved with football obviously due to different types of training but the rule of thumb is still the same. Play fatigued athletes they're going to pick up injuries. We've brought it on our self by making the squad smaller than our last PL squad(which was also very small) To play extra games on tighter schedules. The blame lies with Short 100% imo.

Weren't we struggling (relatively - not like present state) in 73 when it came to the third round of the cup? Cup run sparked league form? Before I was born but sure I've heard my dad say that before.

Sad reality is that the cup means little to clubs as a whole outside of the fans. Premier league money destroyed interest (from a broadcasting standpoint) and devalued both cups IMO

Your dad was right Marcus, we were struggling in the lower reaches of the old second division, when Stokoe arrived. He brought in Vic Halom, a journeyman striker, moved Watson back from CF to CB and signed three squad players from Newcastle, for peanuts. Months later we were in Europe. I can't see it happening this time, but nobody saw it coming then, and it was pure magic.

Without doubt, although injuries are a factor ,on the current scale the squad is in danger of buckling altogether.

I don't disagree just putting a positive slant on it - it makes me feel better. Anyway, nothing much is certain in football... :emoticon-0112-wondeespecially with Sunderland :emoticon-0148-yes:

I remember that time with magical thoughts and happy times. We knew/felt our name was on the the cup after we beat Luton.
All the omens pointed that way including 7&3 in the year - silly I know but you've got to be a bit mad supporting Sunderland :emoticon-0140-rofl: <applause>
