For someone who often claimed how much she had grown to “love” Charlton, it took her all of one day to move on.
It's quite amusing in my opinion, and it says a lot about the shortcomings of whoever is running Sheffield Wednesday at the moment. There is no footballing criteria that can be used to support the notion that Katrien Meire is a competent football Club CEO. Her record on coaching appointments, strategy, customer relations, results, marketing - any area you care to choose - is simply appalling. Yet the owners of a decent sized Championship Club which is struggling in that division this season (sounds familiar?) actually choose to appoint her as its Chief Executive Officer. Perhaps political correctness influenced their decision. One thing I would be fairly sure of; Meire's new patron is unlikely to be as tolerant of her lack of ability as Roland Duchatelet was. It is just astonishing that they are not already aware of it. And if it takes a relegation to open their eyes, well more fool them.
I’ve been having a read of Sheff Wed’s social media including Owls Talk & Twitter - it would be fair to say Meire’s appointment has been about as popular as a rat sandwich. Wednesday’s clueless foreign owner (sounds familiar?) already has an uphill struggle with their fans, and has just made it worse. With Wednesday down to 15th and Driesen and Fraeye waiting in the wings, things can only get worse. I wonder what it is about Bert Jeddez and Canterbury Addick on ITTV that makes them along with RD the only people wetting their spandex pants over Meire?
Try https://www.twitter.com/@swfc and scroll down to where the official report of her being the CEO that is where I found some interesting comments. Edit: I think they have changed the layout since I viewed it. sorry.
Judging from Early responses that will be hard work. It won't be long until she longs for the mild-mannered criticism of Charlton fans.
All the links I've tried for you have stopped working or been deleted I understand she had someone doing that job on the Charlton twitter links too.
Owls of disbelief - the "Journey" Katrien Meire is taking with Sheffield Wednesday http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Meire-appointed-CEO-Sheffield-Wednesday.html Sheffield Wednesday have announced the appointment of Katrien Meire as their new chief executive officer. Meire previously held a similar role at Charlton, overseeing eight managerial changes during a turbulent four-year period at the League One club. Meire told the Owls' official website: 'This is a massive challenge at a massive club and I am looking forward to beginning this journey'. The chairman has very exciting plans for the club in the short and long term and I bought into his vision immediately.' Wednesday are currently looking for a new manager following the departure of Carlos Carvalhal last month. Meire, a Belgian lawyer, joined Charlton back in January 2014 but stood down from her roles as CEO and director of the club just last Thursday. Following that announcement, Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet revealed the club were in talks with 'various interested parties' over a takeover and would not replace Meire. Belgian businessman Duchatelet took control of Charlton in early 2014 when he acquired 100 per cent of the club's shares. He revealed he was open to selling last month and it has been reported Australian businessman Andrew Muir has been in talks with the club. A large section of Addicks fans have protested against Duchatelet, while Meire was also heavily criticised for her role in the club's ownership. Charlton were in the Championship when Duchatelet bought them and were relegated to League One in 2016. Three years ago, Meire was confronted by Charlton fans on a train, angry at the appointment of former manager Guy Luzon following a 5-0 defeat by Watford. A few days after the Charlton fans held protests aimed at Duchatelet and Meire at the end of the 2015-16 season, she said she suffered from 'extreme abuse' and 'criminal offences' from supporters.
It’s all a bit sad (& creepy) the way certain posters on CL have now reached out to Sheff Wed forums to tell tales.
Agreed. There's simply no need. There's never been any love lost between us and them, unlike with Brighton. Anyway they'll find out for themselves all in good time what she's like.
History will be quick to repeat itself if the next owner ignores the advances of Everitt & his disciples. “Sensible advice” from “fans with experience” is guaranteed to be offered again - in reality “we want jobs, free match tickets and hospitality or else”. It’s a shame that the spineless midget who pretends to moderate CL allows this bullying agenda to be pushed all the time.
