Is “moment” the new buzz word of Saints? Ralph said it about 100 times in his interview and now Pellegrino says it in the post match interview. **** phrase
We also need to get a good win under our belt which breeds confidence, Saturday is a great chance to do that. Crashing out the cup to a Championship team ain't gonna help matters at all.
We have very little in the way of a style of play, our tactics are generally poor/seem to be negative and we often have a scattergun approach to the team sheet regardless of form. We are slow and reactive to make any changes to personnel, formation or tactics during a game. And so the redeeming quality that makes MP2 a good manger is his motivational skills, the personality that he has that can bring the best out of players.....errrr No point in milking a boulder. We need a new manager and we need to spend the best part of the VVD money AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, otherwise we're going down. Up until recently I've been seriously concerned but with the caveat that there are a lot of poor teams about. There are a lot of poor teams about, but over the past 10 games or so, we are right down there with the worst of them.
My thoughts are quite simple: we had the game under control in the first half an hour and were positive in difficult conditions (weather and pitch), but we totally surrendered the initiative in the second half. Hodgson reacted to the how the game was going, and Pellegrino only did so when we conceded. It was quite clear that we had lost our grip on the game, and Palace were the dominant side. As per usual, there was no positive reaction when we conceded - and there was only going to be one winner. Humble and nice guy as he seems, his management this season has been disastrous - particularly in games we have needed to win. Sure, he can get a defensive away performance against a top side (City, United), but he cannot motivate the team and react to games when we need the 3 points. A change has to be made now, or we will go down. We are in free fall.
I think you are largely right. OK, not a top six side but SC on paper should be top 8. Instead, the team are lookig like a League 1 team, let alone a Championship one. Bet MP2 rest 5/6 players on Saturday with the inevitable outcome.
Agree with some of this. I think the decision to pad out the squad for Europe last year has left us with a lot of average players. Kinda reminds me of 04/05 when we got relegated while the reserves finished second in the reserves league! We definitely need to sign better attacking players but having said that, our squad is good enough to do better than they are now. We regularly concede awful goals - like Palace's first tonight, the Huddersfield equaliser, Harry Kane's free header from almost on the goal line. Puel wasn't the most exciting manager but, like Poch and Koeman, he knew how to organise a defence. It seems Pellegrino doesn't.
Fonseca, Montella, Bosz or Martino in for Pellegrino for me, the board need to swallow their pride & get the chequebook out. Sign an attacking midfield player who can link our midfield & attack, a new striker and someone who can play on the wings and has genuine pace. Oh, and a centre back. Diakhaby, Pjaca, Brozovic, Sisto (pls) and Alcacer or Dembele would be my picks.
Change is needed now. We will need to get most of our points by the end of March as our last 6 games are: ARSENAL (A) 7/4 CHELSEA (H) 14/4 LEICESTER (A) 21/4 BOURNEMOUTH (H) 28/4 EVERTON (A) 5/5 MAN CITY (H) 13/5
I'd take Bosz out of that list, be a bit of a gamble but would be entertaining! Might add a CB to your list too.
Brendon Rodgers anyone? May need some convincing to give up the trophies he’s almost guaranteed mid season mind..
Don’t see why he would leave Celtic mid-season for us. We are in trouble, and at real risk of heading out of the league - not exactly the best job for him to return to the PL.
