Solent made it sound worse than that so that's good to hear.

Bang average as in on course for 36 points?

Or bang average as in should be around midtable - never threatening the top 7 but never looking in any real danger either?

If Sean Dyche had this squad to work with we might be knocking on the door of the top six.

Bang average as in we need a very good manager to get us out of this hole with our current squad, but I'm not convinced we have enough about us no matter who manages us as it stands.

To have a squad capable of competing for Europe we need at least 6 or 7 signings.

Average suggests mid table. Which is what I think.
Maybe. At least comfortably mid table.

We'll see how their season ends. Plenty of unfashionable teams have had a great first half of the season.

See this is where I disagree, I think even a competent manager wouldn't have us in this hole, MP is out so out of his depth it's untrue almost and he seems to know it.... it's like Bob Bradley ffs.

Don't think we need anything like 6/7 either.

Just got home from game. Why oh Why do we always sit back when taking he lead. So negative from the start of the 2nd half, Woy spotted this straight away, pushed Zaha up front with Benteke, and we just went deeper. MP again so slow to notice this unlike most sat around me, and then he took off PEH???? Bought on Davis when Lemina would have been better. Sorry but unless we invest some of the VVD money quick, and get a manager with some tactical nous, we will get relegated. He should have been sacked after the Spuds game, but the club have to admit yet another mistake and get shot off now.

    All that effort
    All that planning
    All that thought
    All that creativity

And he goes and blows it all after Episode II. Did he not realise this was meant to be an eight episode thread series.

A competent manager like Puel? We've been one of worst teams in the League for the last 12 months, if not the worst. That includes Puels run. The squad is jaded and lacks any potency; Redmond, Long, Gabbiadini, Tadic, JWP, Boufal - where do the goals come from?

A competent manager, a new striker, an attacking midfielder and a replacement for VVD would have seen us top half this season.
Instead we have MP who is massively out of depth as you say.
I can't see things changing while he's in charge unfortunately.

I doubt that. If he had 5 years with them he might.

Good luck if you think a change of manager is going to make a silk purse out of this pigs ear. I'm not actually against changing managers if we have someone lined up, but all our problems are not down to him.

We need a couple of key signings in January to turn this around. And we need the players to start taking collective responsibility, because every ****ing time, they all seem to switch off together.

That I agree with but think that can also be a symptom of poor coaching too.

I don't think anyone is suggesting for a second that a new boss will make us fantastic... but if someone is clearly out of their depth and sleep walking you to relegation then surely we need to get rid?

Well apparently Austin is the top scorer outside the top 6 though I take your point.

Puel was a hell of a lot more competent than MP... got much more points while dealing with a European campaign and a cup run to a final too. Tailed off towards the end as midtable teams have been doing for as long as the game has been played.

I agree we could do with freshening up the squad, but it's certainly not poor and there's a basis of a very decent squad there compared to some of our peers.

Just a few tweaks needed rather than an overhaul.

Exactly this. 1-0 against Huddersfield, comfortable for the first 55 minutes, then we start getting deeper and deeper, and bang - ****ed it. Exactly the same story tonight, but an even worse result.

And every time we did win the ball, no one ****ing moved until we gave it back to them in our own half.
