there’s pros and cons wakey, I know what you mean, but to attack and defend as a team everyone needs to know their job. You’d like to think the creative players are given a bit of licence when we’re In possession. Sometime you watch hadi sacko when the opposition have the ball and you can hear his brain ticking while he’s wondering what he’s supposed to do
What I would like to see more from this team is the two holding midfielders driving forward with the ball more. O’kane Does this sometimes, but not enough, it commits players and creates more space for the attackers. We could really use a good old fashioned box to box player. Is lee bowyer still playing?
I've slowly come round to the 'need a striker' anthem. Big turning point for me was listening to Noel Whelan on the way back from the match on Monday. He provided a very educated, concise & thought-provoking argument for a new striker. He also did so by not slagging the current incumbents (which is a common style on here), so it made you listen. When he discussed Soggy, he was very clear that he's neither fat nor unfit. He said that he's a big, solid unit, & remarked that it's a rare event to have that sort of physique & have mobility at the same time. He remarked that the only way for him to get more mobile would be to lose muscle. Matt Smith did the same - remember the transformation in him? He basically said that we need an amalgam of Ruth & Soggy. All of their good points, and as much strength AND pace as it's possibly to have, so that they fit better into our system of play. So I'm now a convert, but whilst usually optimistic about our team, I must confess to doubting if we'll sign this holy grail - either in January or in the summer. Reason? Well, availability for one. If a striker's that good, he's usually not available. January is a time for picking up off-casts. And at a price too. If we do go for someone in-form, we have one or all of the following 4 problems: 1. They'll prolly be too expensive for us to sign. 2. Their wages will be too high. 3. They won't want to play for us. 4. They won't have relevant Championship experience. So I'm not holding my breath.
Yup. TBH, the only reason he shot was that no-one was moving for him. Other players in this situation usually faff & give the ball away. I like the attitude 'when in doubt - shoot'. You just never know.
The reason we need a new striker is very simple. I am shocked you are struggling with it. Our current forwards are all crap. Not as bad as our keeper but it’s close.
No they're not crap. And that's the point of Whelan's assessment. Which is why I'll listen to an ex-professional striker's assessment with interest, rather than a 606 poster who appears to have a poisoned view of everything Leeds United. They are each suited to playing in a certain way, and have the scoring credentials this season to underline their success. Sadly, our team forget their limitations. Examples from Monday (and from many other days) being - cross after cross into the middle for midget Ruth to try to header whilst being marked by towering CBs, or balls knocked into space for Soggy to sprint on to. Goals usually come when that service is reversed. Check their goals per minute stats against the rest of the Championship. You will see that either everyone in the Championship is 'crap' or our two are not.
