Oh yes the hugely amusing potato reference that is so funny I thank god that I wore my corset for I fear that my sides have split! It’s OK I am quite well educated already. Particularly good at history something that most Chelsea fans don’t have (a bit like their team). There is no denying that since you came into the money you have been hugely successful. But some of us can remember what it was like BR (before Roman) and lets be honest at that point your trophy haul was distinctly average in fact you had more in common with West Ham for a long time, both struggled to say in the top flight for more than a couple of seasons and both were supported by thugs! Seems that some of you are still around too. Anyway anyone saying that Chelsea were bigger or better than Spurs in the late 50s and early 60s is clearly not aware of the facts. In the 4 seasons that Jimmy was with you, Chelsea finished above Spurs once! In fact even with all your recent success your average league position is still lower than Tottenhams Those are all facts - I feel sure that with your huge vocabulary you will feel the need to swear and insult me further but I won’t be posting again so its probably not worth you bothering
I think these facts explain Skiddy's bitterness towards Spurs. When he was young Spurs were the top club in London and maybe in England, Arsenal were sleeping giants who unfortunately woke up in 1971 and Chelsea were also rans who were barely more successful than West Ham until the Russian money changed everything.
Hoddle well abroad, think Steve Archibald did too. Waddle did well as well. Has anyone mentioned Souness? Terry Venables did well as Barcleoma manager...changed them from being violent cloggers (a spanish wimbledon) to a decent footballing side. And Bobby Robson did well managing abroad too.
Calm down my little spudlet this board is all about ****s n giggles (so unlike the Spud desert) firstly I agree that you’re good at history, you’d have to be to remember that far back when you were considered a big club. It was about the time when bananas became available in the shops, so that puts you in your late sixties early seventies. Your recent history knowledge seems to have been affected by a retrograde amnesia disorder. As you seem to have forgotten the historical phrase ‘Three Point Lane’. Which started in December 1990 and lasted through to November 2006. Okay Roman appeared in 2003 so by my humble calculations that’s still thirteen years unbeaten in the league. Yes there was times when we were ordinary and considered a cup team (a little like you now) but clearly a club with ambition as we had achieved Champions league football before BR arrived. Unfortunately for you Spud fans it was one of its own sons that started the Chelsea revolution in Glenn Hoddle who bought in older world class players like Gullit who later bought in Vialli, the rest as they say is history! With regard to figures, anybody can make them work to make whatever point suits their agenda. Have you tried doing one on corners or possession? I’m sure if you tried long and hard you could justify a new cup to be awarded for that empty trophy cabinet. Happy new year!
^^^^ Deluded ”Spurs were the top club in London and maybe England” - this has to be a joke as no one could seriously believe this
Every dog has the sun shine on its arse one time and for the Spuds this happened in the early 60’s for a brief time. There has been no empire built or domination, just a sunny day!
Look at the 60s league tables and see if you agree. Spurs averaged fourth in the league, as did Everton. Nobody else was even close to as good. Spurs won 5 trophies in the decade compared to Everton's two. Arsenal averaged about tenth, Chelsea eleventh and West Ham twelfth. Arsenal had no trophies, Chelsea, one (the League Cup before the top teams entered) and West Ham two. So who would you say was the top team in London over those ten years? I only said maybe in England because a case could be made for Man Utd who had a much worse record average record in the League and won fewer trophies but did get the League title twice and the European Cup.
you missed out the Costa Del Sol Tournament Winners 1965, 1966 Spurs actually have this list of their Honours on their website - how ****ing sad and tragic OTHER HONOURS Southern League Champions: 1899/1900 Western League Champions: 1903/1904 London League Premier Division Champions: 1902/1903 Football League South 'C' Division Champions: 1939/1940 Football League South Champions: 1943/1944, 1944/1945 Southern District Charity Cup Winners: 1901/1902, 1904/1905 (joint), 1906/1907 Dewar Shield Winners: 1901/1902, 1933/1934 London Challenge Cup Winners: 1910/1911, 1928/1929 Anglo-Italian League Cup-Winners Cup Winners: 1971/1972 Norwich Charity Cup Winners: 1919/1920 Norwich Hospital Charity Cup Winners: 1946/1947, 1949/1950 (joint) Ipswich Hospital Charity Cup Winners: 1951/1952 (joint) Costa Del Sol Tournament Winners: 1965, 1966 Nolia Cup (Sweden) Winners: 1977 Japan Cup Winners: 1979 Sun International Challenge Trophy (Swaziland) Winners: 1983 Peace Cup (Korea) Winners: 2005 Vodacom Challenge (South Africa) Winners: 2007 Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament (Holland) Winners: 2008 Barclays Asia Trophy (China) Winners: 2009
Just historical information. One of Arsenal's greatest moments according to your website is being the only club not to have been promoted on playing merit! But do you now agree that Spurs were easily the top London club in the 60s? And maybe the top club in England?
1956 so my childhood memories are heavily from the 60s. It came as a huge shock when Arsenal won the double in 1971 because they had barely been out of mid table in my memories prior to that.
