Morning all, showers here again, but quite mild. A farming family that we are friends with out here are now stars of TV. They run the farm on Bio lines, but use modern technology such as a satnav in a tractor to ensure that slurry gets sprayed over the whole of a field, and a drone to go and check up on the animals rather than drive out to examine them. The filming was fun for the 14 year old daughter who had to eat a steak from the farm, but only in tiny pieces so she talk at the same time. A lot of what they said in French was over dubbed by a French national because their version of the language is heavily overlaid with a Yorkshire accent.
Technology is taking off in farming up here too - dairy farmers have their herds fitted with microchips which, if any cows get sick, send messages to the farmers' smartphones. Some farmers plough their fields from the comfort of their office chairs - their tractors are fitted with remote control devices & video cameras. It's quite alarming to drive along a country road and be confronted by a driverless tractor - something I would have thought illegal. I suspect that if any of them were to be the subjects of a TV show, there would be dubbing going on too - the Doric dialect can be quite 'challenging'.
Evening all. The strong winds meaning that the ferry hasn't sailed for a few days has lead to shops running low of a few things. The main ones are fresh fruit, veg and bread.
One of my ex students has moved to Guernsey with her family and posted FB video this morning of the seas coming across the road and in her front garden....
Morning all, grey, showers and windy in rural France this morning. The days are now supposed to be getting longer, even if by only one minute, but on a morning like this when you need some lights on, it is difficult to see the difference.
Morning all, grey and wet here. Still have my computer problems which for a non techy person are difficult to sort out. Hope our resident expert can help
Sorry OFH, I broke the main server in our London office today and i've been busy trying to fix it since 8am, i'll PM you later
Maybe this is not the type of person to give help if he goes round breaking main servers. Without really knowing what I have done, I finally have got back into my laptop, given it an internal spring clean, and it is running again. Fingers crossed it stays in the same state.
I didn't really break it, a Windows update knocked it off the network and it's fighting back. Glad to hear it's sorted!
Has anyone else on here joined the Facebook group Watford Memories and History? A recent post that has caused a lot of comment was a picture of the Watford squad for the 1971/72 season, with the poster asking for names of the players. All bar one have been identified - and there's a lady claiming that his name was Ken Owens, she knows him as she went out with him. As many have pointed out, Watford have never had a player of that name, but she is adamant. The player in question is 2nd from the right in the front row. Anyone got any thoughts?
