The last few pages have shown me why I don't want the technology (I know I might be in the minority). This is what footballs all about, the controversy, the different opinions and at times a good old ****ing off. Then we all forget about it and wait for the next game
After today's games there may well be another contentious decision for us all to discuss!!
If we think refs are bad now, wait until technology is introduced and the refs won't make any "on the spot" decisions. Rugby has already gone this way and cricket is only bearable because they have 3 (I think) opportunities to challenge decisions.

It seems that as a defender unless you keep your hands down and by your side, you’re at risk of getting pinged for handball.

Re video, I think it’s generally a good idea. No, it shouldn’t be used for every single decision. But for critical ones, yes.

Better to get the right decision.

The idea that we’d somehow lose something from the game by not being able to argue over incorrect decisions is bizarre logic imo. They’ll still never get it 100% right anyway despite the technology, it’ll simply reduce the impact that the man in the middle has on the outcome of a game, and for me that’s a bloody good thing

Most correct decisions should be pretty each to reach. Although, some decisions will always carry an element of subjectivity.

It takes very little time for the ref to contact the video referee ( another qualified ref) and say something like, ‘My feeling is that that’s a penalty, red card’ , etc. ‘please check it for me’ or ‘I’d like to see that again please’

100% agree. The controversy makes it so much better.

The bottom line is you get some for you and some against you.

For a few million a year I’m sure I could somehow grin and bear it.

My thoughts too ... and let's face it ... the 'bigger' clubs do tend to get the rub of the green on contentious decisions (especially when at home) ... whilst the TV ref won't completely eradicate that, it should reduce any element of bias (even unconscious) significantly ...

Football for me has always been about the banter, win, lose or draw. I think 99.9% of people thought yesterday's decision was shocking but it provoked a bit of fun on here and I guess hundreds of pubs and clubs across the country. Some of the funniest chants / comments I have heard at games come from when incorrect decisions are made.
As I said I appreciate I'm in the minority, but I think technology will make the game too sterile. Personally if and when technology is introduced I would rather go and watch American football. Both would be utter ****, but the yanks have had many more years perfecting the crap that is American football.

Football is about winning and if you get the right refereeing decision on more occasions than not, that’s great.

Using your logic and following it to its ultimate conclusion, if the quality of refereeing reached almost infallible heights then you’d somehow fall out of love with the game?

Football doesn’t need ****e officiating it’s merely a boil that should be lanced

...there will still be differences of opinion over the TV decisions ... there is in Rugby ... but it will help to get more crucial decisions right and to cut out cheating too, which I'm all in favour of ... we have a generation that has been influenced by 'Stevie Meee' type divers and we need to eradicate that from the game <cheers>

If VAR was introduced a couple of years back you wouldn't have won the league. So much cheating from the so called 'champion's'
