Can anyone recommend a good protein powder? I'm looking for something with no calories, comes in a decent size tub and ideally doesn't make me want to retch when I drink it.
Aye but which one in particular? It's hard finding one that's palatable - most of them are rank. I dunno if some powders are more effective than others either.
I always buy mine from here. Its cheaper than anything you buy from off a shelf and it comes in a sealed bag so your not paying for packaging. They deliver usually in less than 48 hours and they even give you a round about time theyre coming... https://m.myprotein.com What type of protein are you after? I always get Impact whey because i dont want to put on too much bulk.
Most of them I've tried are milky & I hate milk. I can't recommend one but I'm sure the shop can. As you say, most of them are vile. All the ones I have tried were sickly sweet.
I just buy the flavourless and down it, i couldnt give a toss how it tastes. You could blend some fruit in with it if you can really be arsed which i cant. You get slightly more protein in the flavourless bag aswell because none of the weight of it is taken up with flavourings and its usually a couple of quid cheaper.
I go myprotein too. Have a look at the site for different versions. Look for lower carb but all will have some calories. Various flavours available (more expensive) I just get plain, and I find when making shakes, a banana overcomes most tastes , although you need to blend. Banana adds carbs of course, but you need that if you've done a workout. Also go to Voucher Codes website, there are always offers on for myprotein and you'll get 20, 25, or 30% off.
Flavourless is fine by me because the ones with flavour usually taste awful. As long as I can drink it and keep it down which has been a bit touch and go with some of the chocolate and strawberry ones I've had in the past. I'm looking for something that will add bulk but without the calories, I've used them years ago when I was skinny but now I've filled out and have got my weight at a good level I'm certainly not looking to consume extra calories. Any recommendations mate?
Screw Holland and Barrett, biggest con outfit on the high street. Everything they sell can be obtained much much cheaper elsewhere. Surely good old fashioned flavourless pure whey would be best?
I'm no expert (maybe Tees may know further on this) but your requirement might be for BCAA's (Branch Chained Amino Acids) rather than extra protein ??
Im no expert either. Its hard to pick the right protein because its trial and error until you find the one that suits you the most. Impact wheys good for me because i dont feel or look good too bulked up. Have you tried Creatine?
No never used it, you have that pre workout right? Was just having a look at the impact whey, it's 100 calories a serving which is ok although I'd prefer one with zero because I'll probably take it twice a day fairly often, it's 21g of protein per serving but I think my old powders were more like 40g, I'm wondering if 21g is enough.
In brief. If you are cutting calories whilst training, you can lose muscle through the catabolic effect (body using muscle stores for energy) BCAA's help to preserve the muscle. As Tees says, it sometimes takes some experimentation - monitoring your own body responses to different things. There's a lot of information about these things - and it's certainly the case that ''one size does not fit all''
Have a look on the link that I shared. There's a part on the menu 'for your goal' that you may find helpful.
Thanks for the recommendations fellas got a few things to have a look into. Used to just buy the biggest and cheapest tub in the shop but after hitting thirty I've got my waistline to consider haha. Cheers.
Your just wasting your money buying the cheaper stuff. Home bargains does big tubs for a tenner but its defo worth quality rather than quantity. I got recommended @myprotein by a mate of mine who does bodybuilding and ive never used anything else since. Make sure that you eat a high protein diet aswell with whatever you buy cause eating the right food is just as important as lifting weights. Defo use Creatine though if you havent already. It takes about a month to start working, but youll then start seeing a big difference in your strengh and muscle recovery.
