Wow £75m for a player who was worth £13m 2 years ago when Southampton signed him. Has he really increased his value my £62m in the last 2years? I certainly don't think so. Don't get me wrong I do rate him, but football's just gone daft now, hence my love for it deteriorating rapidly by the season.
He was a player who would have improved us at that time and we bulked at the 10m asking price. Just like we did with Alonso(Many questioned his abilty moving to Chelsea but he's done well) I see it as massive profit lost from a useless Short missing the right time to spend as per.
Supply and demand, marra . . . . if someone thinks that he's worth £75m (and someone obviously does) he is ! Southampton will probably bid about £30m for Lamine Kone to replace him now
If he’s worth £75million we should get at least £15 for Kone. That’s £15 not £15million. Van Dijk is the second best CB in the league - if Stones is worth £50million, £75million is about right. He guarantees CL football for them for me, so he pays for himself.
We have made countless blunders in the transfer market, from Roy Keane to the present day, this is just one more, with inflation and money flooding into the game we have well and truly missed the boat this time. Consequences are as a selling club and in a sellers market we have nothing to sell, this and recent events show the error of selling off Pickford too soon. We would not now be in the bottom three with a decent keeper even in this shambles of a team, our current available three, are the worst in living memory.
I'm not convinced that Van Dijk is a top defender yet, have to see how he gets on at Liverpool. So he can play a bit, big deal. Defenders are there to defend.
On a side note its getting pretty ridiculous how many players Liverpool are taking off Southampton. Why don't they just buy their chief scout - they'd save a fortune
Alderweireld by an absolute mile. Van Dijk is a better passer, but as a defender Toby by a distance - he’s flawless.
Another one to add to the very long list of missed opportunities is Danny Rose. We could have had him for about £7mil according to press reports after his Loan finished. He was happy enough to come as his prospects of regular games at Spurs were limited. He is angling for a move and MU are reported to be sniffing about. He's worth, and bill command, rather more than the £7mil we wouldn't pay, I suspect.
