Exceptional, it has all the feel and look of the original. 9/10

Watched this the other night and totally agree. I told you last year that this was being made and as Villenueve was directing i expected him to do a decent job. He surpassed my expectations. Caught the atmosphere of the original perfectly. He has turned out to be an exceptional director.

Set up for a sequal as well. Here's hoping it turns out as good as this one.

Watched this for the third time this morning. This is without doubt one of the best movies of 2017. If you haven't seen it get it watched. Excellent fare.

He's doing a reboot of Dune. Could be something special.

    Mudbound:

Interesting post war race drama set in the Delta. Decent performances and plot but the pacing is too slow.

    Three billboards blah blah blah.

Very good movie made all the better by an excellent cast. Frances McDormand is superb. Woody does a sterling job but Sam Rockwell steals the show in my opinion. No doubt he will miss out on his Oscar due to the bleeding hearts kicking up a fuss about his character not getting his just desserts for being a racist but he deserves it. An absolute showstopping performance.

    Cold skin

Very decent low budget flick. A young man is sent to take over a remote lighthouse and finds it abandoned . It's only when the boat that papped him aff is away that he realises the previous occupant is still about. There is also a few monsters in the night to deal with.

This is actually quite a good wee film. Well worth a watch.

    7/10

    Phantom thread

Possibly Daniel Day Lewis's final film. I think he has an oscar nomination for it and he does put in a good shift. The film itself is a turgid affair. Slow and actually, very boring.

    6/10

    Darkest hour

Remarkable performance from Gary Oldman that lifts this film out of mediocrity. He must be a shoe in for an Oscar.

Went to see Game Night today (on a rare day off from work). Not going to win any awards but had its moments and was entertaining enough.

Annihilation: Don't let the trailer fool you, this is no monster shoot em up in the vein of Predator or Aliens, it's a very clever and thought provoking Sci Fi movie. A bit like 2001: A space odyssey , a bit like Sunshine (which Alex Garland, the writer director here also wrote), a bit like Arrival. it will leave you with lots of questions. I enjoyed it immensely.

Low budget movie with a surprisingly great cast. You will get it in Netflix and it's worth a watch if you can't find anything else.
