I'm on the second glass of Rioja, getting used to the endless celebrations. I've got a first weekend at a Warners Leisure hotel coming up soon, anyone else tried them?

Holme Lacey in Herefordshire thrice+ and Cricket St. Thomas in Somerset (set of To The Manor Born). Mrs H-F is indulging in some "me time" on Hayling Island next month. Holme Lacey is quite superb. We were pretty much the youngest there in our late 40's, but thoroughly enjoyed a change to a more sedate pace.

We will also be in Hayling Island next month to watch Tina Turner, Neil Diamond and Cher. Something tells me they might be imposters. They had better be good 'cause I'm missing the cup game.

I have been warned about the number of zimmer frames to trip over. My wife took her elderly mother a few months ago and had a great time despite having to fight off a few gigalos on the dance floor!!

Has to be better than the lip-synching / miming, drag, Tina Turner act I saw in the Algarve a few years ago...and at least it's unlikely you'll get Prospecting Hell's Angels dressed in tutus forming an impromptu dance troupe during said act on stage.... yeah I've been to some classy places!

Think that's asking a bit too much...He allegedly has a wife that is prepared to spend time with him, doubt many sane people would.

  13. <laugh> Booked my holiday this morning - 6 days walking in the Scottish Highlands. What's the betting it's the first time in centuries that it snows in July?

  14. I was in Greenland for work a few years ago. Went to the local nightspot and was subjected to an Inuit Nirvana tribute band. I wouldn't recommend them...

Is this setting the tone for our forum in 2018?

Morning, Dave. One of my cousins also supports Norwich. She lives in South-East London now. My Uncle and Aunt moved to Norwich in 82 or 83, and she was born in 85. She followed the same path as the rest of the family in supporting the team for where she was born, which was broken by jerzeypie.

Morning all. Sunshine and showers forecast for today with a strong but very mild wind. They were correct apart from the sunshine. I think we have avoided the weekly shopping trip which is to be praised as no doubt the supermarkets will be packed again. They are opening tomorrow as well until 6.00 pm. Very much needed as they will not be open on Monday so people will be in danger of starvation by Tuesday. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Not centuries, but this century, I'm afraid to say.

My dad died on midsummer's day in 1997 - I flew over from mid-winter in Oz expecting some half decent Scottish summer weather, only to find myself shivering in snow at his funeral in 2C heat. I can remember asking myself "How the hell did they manage to dig that grave."

But I suppose that at least you'll be on the move, so should stay relatively warm. :)

    Where are you headed to?

  19. I'm doing the West Highland way so start from Milngavie and finish in Fort William. Very excited as I still have some recollections of being up there as a small boy. I did the three peaks in 2010 too so Fort William always has good memories for me.

July is the best time of year to watch Fort William FC play too. <laugh>

    Enjoy...
