It’s brilliant the way the whole Charlton fan base has reacted to this news today. It genuinely takes me back to the same reaction we witnessed in the 1980s over the Valley. Quite a few long term Charlton fans have Tweeted for the first time in ages today expressing joy and relief. Proof once again that Paul May, Burt Jeddez and Major Williamson really were the Deluded 0.000000001%.
It’s worth remembering what sort of a club Charlton became under Meire. A couple of years ago I tweeted a photo of a lifelong fan who turned out to be in his 80s, being intrusively searched outside the ground and having his boiled sweets confiscated. Stewards have routinely seen fit to act as bully boys and thugs - this season fans entering the North Stand have their tickets checked (rudely) 3 times to ensure they are not slipping upstairs. Under the arrogance of Meire Charlton because a club that had an open and visual contempt for its own fans.
Doesn't matter how much back tracking this lot do, and Reams will be back tracking his knackers off to get with the real fans, there really is no comeback when self-interest comes before the Club.
ITTApologist has zero credibility. They have now gone members only today to see what stance they are going to take against the new board. They will thank the Belgians for what they have done and compare the new ownership with them.
An article which appeared on the News Shopper website in the last hour... http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/...Charlton_CEO_lands_new_job_with_English_club/ Charlton chief executive Katrien Meire has landed a new job with an English club. Meire resigned from her role at the Valley earlier this month. And News Shopper has been told that the Belgian lawyer will start working for another club when she leaves SE7 at the end of the year. Meire was appointed CEO of Charlton when Roland Duchatelet bought the Addicks in January 2014. She fell out with Charlton fans after branding them “customers” before the club were relegated from the Championship last year. Not Cardiff City then, unless the NS journos are being even less accurate than usual. (Cardiff being in Wales rather than England, last time I checked) Time to start guessing then... Who would be desperate or daft enough to offer Meire a job? (presumably as CEO) Here are my ten guesses; West Ham United Crystal Palace Birmingham City Bolton Wanderers Norwich City Hull City MK Dons Coventry City Forest Green Rovers Leyton Orient EDIT: The statement from Duchatelet that 'Charlton are in take-over talks' was reported on BBC breakfast news just now. I think this was a reference to him saying yesterday that "a change of ownership is likely".
Not far wrong Elfs. The Comedy Channel is no longer Members Only - Major Nigel has written about what a delightful woman Meire is and Reams is claiming she was bullied out of the Club. Nothing to do with her failing to meet every single one of her KPIs as CEO then?
The pro-Roland faction will inevitably rewrite their own version of Charlton's history to suit their pro-Roland stance. It's shoddy journalism to say that calling the fans "customers" caused a falling-out with the fans though. The problem was always her gross incompetence and ignorance. No-one should forget that she was welcomed by the fans at first, but she destroyed that good will by her actions.
To be fair to the News Shopper journo, he/she had to sum up the four year 'relationship' between Meire and the Charlton fans in a single line. Only about 2% of the web page was available for the actual article, the rest is filled with adverts. This is why I tend to copy the text and paste it in my posts.
Meire will never get another job in football, and we all know it. She failed at every single level as Charlton CEO.
That's a good point. The NS article did not say she was going to remain a CEO, that was my assumption. It's quite possible she has been offered a different position somewhere, based on her legal qualifications...
We know that a certain type of ageing bloke is susceptible to Meire’s fakery & winsome smile. Not only Duchatelet, but Richard Murray, Paul May etc.
The question you as fans need to start addressing now RD is on his way is how do you unite. All the factions knocking lumps out of each other will need to stop if you as a club under whoever takes over is to progress, and yes that includes some of you here who prefer to play politics and yaaboo than want your club to succeed. There are clearly some of you (and you know who you are) that are more interested in petty agendas with other groups than the wellbeing of your team/club and deep down you don't want a consensus among the fanbase.. With RD going you have to decide is there more that unites you as a club than divides you.
Agree 100%. As far as I'm concerned when the new owners take over, all the hostilities between rival factions of Charlton fans that were caused or worsened by the Duchatelet Regime should cease. Our destructive civil war should be brought to an end. Nobody has won during these troubled years. The Club has lost, the fans have all lost. When the sale is confirmed I think it should be time to lay down our arms and begin to come back together. If we choose to continue to fight amongst ourselves and refuse to let go of old animosities, we, the Charlton fans, will only be hurting ourselves more. There is nothing to be gained.
We keyboard warriors are only a tiny minority, whiling away the time in this way because of the dead hand of Roland killing off normal football talk. The attendances at the Valley are derisory now, but those who are still there are united behind the team. Once a sense of ambition and purpose is restored to the club the positive vibe at The Valley will drown out any residual ill-feeling. We're not a trade union after all, no secret ballot was ever taken on Roland. The silent majority have voted with their feet. How many will return remains to be seen.
