I would like Godfrey to get some game time for us in Jan. so that DF can properly assess his ability. Then make a decision for the rest of the season just before the window "slams" shut.

I agree. If, as is likely, we are completely out of any promotion hopes by January, then perhaps he should play here with a view towards next season after Tettey has moved on.

NOT the news I wanted to read - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-godfrey-extends-shrewsbury-loan-stay-1-5334974 <yikes>
But at least he’s on a lengthy contract - Godfrey signed a new four year deal at Carrow Road in August and has so far made six senior appearances for his parent club.

I think this is great news. Staying at Shrewsbury and potentially helping them gain promotion will do so much more for Godfrey's development than him returning to Carrow Road and playing a minor role in the first team. Supporters need to start getting used to this type of professional management of young players. Despite doing very well a Shrewsbury and attracting interest from PL clubs it's still not clear that he's yet at Championship standard, although I don't doubt he will be in the future. Best thing for the lad is regular football ideally in a winning team, which is what he's getting at Shrewsbury.

Fair comment canario, but imagine if JM had chosen to stay at Aberdeen as opposed to opting to stay at CR and in his own words 'fight for his place' in the first team?? IMO, we'd be MUCH nearer the relegation places than the lowly position in which we currently find ourselves!!!
I was fortunate enough to be at CR when he displayed his immense talent for the under 23s in their cup runs in the first few months of this year and he was a joy to watch.
My main concern is that Tettey is on 3 yellows and is also prone to injury and Godfrey IMO (and is also the opinion of others on this thread) that he is the almost the perfect replacement for him.

Edit - I'd just like to finish by saying that I can also see 'mileage' in your viewpoint on the topic!!

I can also see the good side of Godfrey staying on loan, but with Thompson still injured, further injuries to Tettey or Trybull would leave us very vulnerable. This would have been a great chance to see what he could do in the Championship. Jamal Lewis has taken his chance very well and was arguably our most consistent player at Birmingham.

I remember Tottenham having a very promising youngster and their fans wanted him to be given a chance with the first team squad but they kept sending him out on loan. He came here for a few months but he was not a great success in the eyes of our very knowledgeable supporters . In fact I recall that in the following season we had a thread on here as to who we should get in on loan and one of our knowledgeable supporters wrote ' anybody but Harry Kane ' Whatever happened to that Harry Kane? Did he eventually prove the worth of loaning youngsters out to lesser Clubs?

Well, if you saw anything - one single thing, during his ill-fated stay with us that could remotely be described a "success", then I'm all ears <ok> :emoticon-0112-wonde

To be fair to all sides of the debate it has to be said that we did not see a lot of him but turning your point back at you - apart from the half chance he missed against West Ham what did he do wrong?

If I remember correctly, he suffered a VERY serious injury shortly after he came to CR.

Just looked it up. He made 2 appearances off the bench and sustained his injury in his 3rd appearance. That was it!!! Obviously enough for the ' anybody but Harry Kane ' remark

Very pleased to see that Remi Matthews has been loaned to Argyle once more but this time for the rest of the season. Not seen anyone unhappy with this news so far down here. Hopefully the curse of the keepers has been lifted now as the last loanee went back to his club without a leg missing or in plaster. Promise we will look after him better this time. Thank you Norwich.

Very good news indeed JMF. Godfrey is a natural successor to Tettey and will benefit greatly from playing alongside Trybull. Much depends on whether Gunn returns for another loan next year(which seems likely), but there seems to be a natural succession there for Matthews. Our Academy One set-up is providing a whole range of talented players for the future and that's exactly what a club like ours needs - the Southampton model we've been talking about for quite a while.

It is indeed good news and I'm hopeful that Efete (can't remember where he is on loan!!) can return an improved player as well.
IMO, the future is fairly bright. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Efete is at Torquay Utd, a good club which has only recently lost its league status. I just checked and his loan deal runs out today. :emoticon-0105-wink:
