I'd certainly prefer that to the unveiling of a 'fit again' Naismith or Jarvis. The club needs to move forward as best it can with no money so its future is with young players with something to prove rather than has-beens making a token effort to appear to warrant their (obscene, in cases ) pay cheque.

Pretty obvious to most fans who refuse to accept that Clubs have to be run as a business and that players are in it to make money rather than show loyalty to the Club. Both Brady and Olsson wanted to leave in the same way that they left their previous Clubs to play at a higher level and earn more money. When the fans refer to ambition what they really mean is spend money the Club haven't got. Same mentality as the gambler who, having lost virtually everything, has to put his last £10 in the machine in the forlorn hope of winning the jackpot. Whether it is internal debt or external debt NCFC are in debt and debt has to be repaid. Like every business they have to reduce their outgoings to their income. It could be argued that they should have done more last year to reduce their outgoings but they did gamble a bit in the hope of getting promotion. The gamble failed and this season and next season drastic action is needed to avoid financial ruin. Do you think they wanted to sell the likes of Howson and Murphy? They needed the income so had to sell. Do you think they wanted to let the likes of Ruddy and Bennett leave on frees? They couldn't afford to give them new contracts . Do you really believe that Russell Martin didn't take a drastic salary drop with his new contract extension? He did. He didn't want to leave and is taking his Coaches badges - read into that what you will. Do you think that they wouldn't get rid of the likes of Naismith and Jarvis and their wages if they could? Of course they would. You can put goods into the summer and winter sales but if nobody wants to buy them then they have to put away until the next sale. Do you think they had any choice but to bring in free transfer replacements and youngsters on low wages? They had no option. Fans can live in dreamland and believe that a rich man is going to come along and take all our troubles away but you cannot run a business on pie in the sky dreams. The Club has to operate in the real world so what they are doing is prudent - what the fans call ' ambition ' is complete irresponsibility.

Excuse my ignorance but I thought Husband and at least one of the German players were left backs. As for the homeless person selling his shoes then if he is hungry and sells his shoes and with the money buys a cheaper pair of shoes and a meal then it is good business or prudent. If he sells his shoes and buys lottery tickets with the proceeds then it is irresponsible or ambitious.
Husband is not very good so we had to shoehorn a German midfielder into playing left back. The homeless person sold a pair of quality leather boots and bought a flip flop and a mitten as a replacement . By all means sell the 2 left backs for £18m but at least buy 2 replacements and invest at least 10% of the transfer fees as the wages are off the books too.
Whether he is good or not is a different argument to the position he plays. As a generalisation I am sure that even last summer we reinvested more than 10% of fees received on incoming players but the main, and most important, thing was a drastic reduction in the wage bill. I am afraid that this trend will have to intensify and our long term hopes rest with the academy and finding and bringing through young players from other sources. Obviously you also need experience to guide the youngsters on the pitch and protect them otherwise they can get kicked out of the game. I suspect that Tettey is the ' enforcer ' at the moment which might explain part of the improvement at Brum and why Maddison was then left alone after a couple of early heavy challenges.
To simplify it . We had 2 quality left backs in the squad. We sold them both and bought a below average left back with no cover in the position. Pocketed £17m profit but left with only 1 recognised left back. Desperate and high risk strategy.

Wasn't convinced when we signed him. Last season, thought he was clueless, boring and predictable. No change this season. He's just not a good Manager, but he wont be sacked this season.
Whatever he calls himself, he's not very good at it. Does anyone know his, win and loss percentage since he joined? It's got to be seriously poor? If it wasn't for Madders, it would have been even worse.
