He can be good going forward....so suits a team that plays attacking football and can cover for a CB pushing forward. May be another reason that he hasn't been at his best with us this season.
Romeu played far better under Puel than this season. Puel rated him highly and called him the most important player in the team....that kind of support must sit very well with a player.
“We were/are proper desperate for a leader at the back” Maybe I have missed it, but for all his attributes, I have never seen VVD as a leader or organiser. He generally does a very good job, and may lead by example, but if you’re after a defender who will marshall a defence, then I don’t think he is your man.
Strange that some are saying that Les or the board didn't handle this well. I don't recall the suggested fee last summer being that high. We paid what, about £12M for him in the first place? I think that we played this about as well as we could, given that he wanted to go. No hard feelings from me. He wasn't a local lad, who professed undying love for the club and then disappeared. We got top dollar-again. Yet again I find myself wondering how many of the haters would turn down an offer to triple their salary from a competitor?
Always remember moderately good players always look good in a **** side. Once they play with better players their flaws quickly become apparent. You may therefore have to prepare yourself for a disappointment. PS Lovren is a much better defender (just kidding).
When we dish out abuse (Lovren) it's usually quite loud,it's a shame we seem to concentrate on abuse as our support for the team is rarely above muted. I know it's hard right now but a big effort from the crowd might just help!
I don't disagree, that must be great for a player. But the whole team was better under Puel as well so it isn't just that.
