With the January inflated prices we are unlikely to spend that much in this window....being saved for the summer window it looks like.
Our usual definition of "reinvest the cash", then. We'll save the majority for summer, when prices are better, and then we'll miss out on some of our top targets, but we'll have money to spend in January, when we'll save the majority for the following summer when prices are better.
Liverpool have paid over the odds for players bought from us and it's not exactly made their latest player any cheaper. Especially considering who he's replacing.
Bearing in mind he has hardly trained properly or played in 2017, it would be interesting to see how fit he is. The Scouse Scum will have to put him into their team immediately regardless of his fitness so how long before he potentially breakdown? We can hope
He's talking utter nonsense. We often have big money players on the bench, it's how big clubs roll. He'll play when Klopp wants him to play, not before, not after. 75mil is overpriced, I don't think anyone denies that but that's just how football is now, crazy. Like they'll get 75mil to reinvest anyway Even if they get 50mil of it to spend clubs now know they have big money burning a hole in their pocket. All we've done is spend the Coutinho money on VVD and Ketia. So put it that way and we're in better shape as we're hardly lacking offensively. Happy days. The thing that would piss me off I was a Saints fan would be stuff like what Fonte is doing regarding Bertrand, bang out of order tbh.
I know massive prices were quoted in the summer, but I never believed in them. We are selling now because our needs are different and Liverpool have had to pay much higher that they hoped to do when they thought they could do a unilateral deal with VVD. I'd call us winners....if I didn't look at our results. Some of the money has to be spent now on players that may not be the best in the Universe, but can make a difference to us. May get us those valuable points....though I have no confidence that we will do better than adequate as I have lost all faith in our manager. And remember I am that fan who clings till the last minute to belief in our players and management.
To be honest Fran it's not a bad deal for either club in the grand scheme of things. We were/are proper desperate for a leader at the back and he'd thrown his dummy out and stopped even trying for you guys. You did the right thing in the summer, but selling so early in Jan does make me think you probably wished (in hindsight) you'd sold him early doors in the summer window. It didn't happen, it has now. Saints are happy with the 75mil. Liverpool had a target for midfield and defence and a budget, we landed both within the budget. Fans getting caught up in the money argument are being naive. Clubs in the PL generally have **** loads of money, so 60mil or 75mil, to us that's a lot, but to our clubs it's peanuts. Only negative is you don't have any other players that I'd want us to come in for.... possibly Bertrand
Not so sure about that, we've got a cracking young, English winger by the name of Nathan Redmond ... more than good enough to step up.
https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017...ton-liverpool-transfer-agreement-announcement Our statement regarding the sale of VVD.....warmish on our scale of statements. Not quite a 'bog off you tosser' but hardly a missive of gratitude....we wish him luck through gritted teeth. Mind you, Les was occupied counting the pile of fivers.
Exactly my thoughts Schad. We’ll save some for the summer ‘when prices are better’, but we’ll then sell Bertrand for £35-40m before we’ve spent the Van Dijk money, and we’ll talk about reinvesting all of the Bertrand money while brushing under the carpet that we haven’t spent all the Van Dijk money. We may not even spend all of the Bertrand money either as there will likely be an excuse about our top targets not being available at reasonable prices.
We're not getting the money in voucher form....has to be spent by a certain date. There are lots of outgoings...apart from the purchase price of new players....their wages for a start. I have no expectations that we will spend 75 million on players.
