Yes, FSG are splashing the cash now and we have broken our transfer record 3-4 times this year. We’re buying a ready made player who ticks all the boxes we need for a defender in our system, in his prime and is also a leader. He could prove to be invaluable if hits the ground running because he could improve the players around him as well.
To be fair to the player, the price tag is not his fault (same with Pogba and all the other over-priced buys), but it will be a millstone around his neck. Unless he's on the top of his game it will be mentioned incessantly.
I've never heard of him either... I think VVD is a good addition could be great if he gets back to his best 75m is lots of dollar though LFC are keeping Southampton afloat lol...
We wanted him and, after a fight, we got him. Klopp will probably live or die (figuratively) by this decision, but he was sure. He's probably only 'worth' £50m - but we couldn't get him for that. We could have got three Lovrens for £75m though, and a wage bill @ £450k a week. United, City and Chelsea have been paying a 33% purchase tax on players for decades now - we are no longer poor, and when the final (for now) ground extensions kick in, we'll be richer . Most of all though is the Prem deal: this is the problem with Barca going around with a £200m cheque in their pocket trying to get top players on the cheap, on the never-never, and with ludicrous add-ons too. We'll have to get used to paying that tax, but FFS - it's better than Moneyball and a squad full of Markovich's.
I hope he is the type that thrives on pressure and high expectations. He'll no doubt have those in big proportions. I can already see the headlines whenever there is a mishap" £75m Liverpool defender gets this or world record breaking defender does that"
"You wont believe what 75m footballer did" "World record costing player loses 2 stone using this weird trick" "Hot expensive footballers in -INSERT ISP AREA CODE- ready to chat now"
