Let's face it £75m (a World record!) for a defender that has had probably only one great season in the PL is a massive amount of money and we can use it in more important areas of the squad.
Well that's your opinion. And it may well come true. But it's a completely different subject. How much we spend in January should be taken separately to who we sell Virgil too. If we don't sufficiently invest enough in January, that doesn't suddenly mean we were wrong to sell to Liverpool. It means that Les and our recruitment has yet again messed up.
K Billy over on SaintsWeb says we have at least a couple of deals close to completion. Definitely got a striker which inevitably seemed to be coming, plus Shane Long is in the process of being sold.
Good move for Long. Yes we know his short comings in his finishing etc but he has been a good buy for the team over the 3 seasons as a whole. Wish him the best.
I'm not shy of criticising the board but I disagree with those saying their stance in the summer was for nothing. There was no formal bid in the summer and the rumour was that Liverpool were prepared to pay £60m for van Dijk. He's come back into the side, been okay but not outstanding, and we're now getting £75m for him. So I'd say what they said and did in the summer was worth at least £15m. The real test of course is what we do with the money.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT Southampton Football Club can confirm it has reached an agreement with Liverpool over the transfer of Virgil van Dijk. Southampton have agreed a fee that will set a new world-record for a defender. The club wishes Virgil well in his future when the deal is completed on January 1st 2018.
Please please let this happen. I would say knee, but after the pain Jay went through, wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Good ridence to an unpleasant narcacistic character who has disrespected us and our club with his apauling behaviour and hope he takes his attitude to the Scouse Scum. Now who is coming in with all that cash?
The pundits ripped us a part yesterday with; 'Why didn't they just let him go in the summer.' We just can't win can we. Its like we are here just to supply players to the top six, and when we dare stand up for ourselves we are rounded on. Screw 2017, roll on 2018, where only bids of £50M+ get us to bend over........
