So there it is. Proof, if any more were needed, that we are unable to defend a lead. We cannot close a game down. We can't be boring for a few minutes to stay in front. 2-0 up against Arsenal and our midfield at missing. 2 v 1 for Arsenal all over the pitch. Nobody tracking runners. Our defenders forget the very basics of the game, this time young Gomez caught watching the ball and not the (world class) man...madness! Our keeper cannot concentrate for what should have been a relatively simple save. We've said it a while now. Klopp has no plan B. Our players are coached to take up positions to attack when we win the ball, not to defend leads. We simply cannot defend consistently and professionally and Klopp is at fault for this. He has failed to replace a dodgy keeper, defence and central midfield over several windows and while our forward play is sometimes exhilarating, it's all in vain if we capitulate at the back like we did against Arsenal. Defending is easier to coach than attacking but it's only possible if it's coached properly. I do not believe that Klopp is coaching us defensively at all. Such are the mistakes. How much longer will he get playing such unbalanced football? We'll win nothing playing like it. Top players will leave and the cycle will begin again. Not good.
I can sort of forgive Klopp for not changing players, but only in the sense of whats the point of changing if you cant get somebody who you can guarantee will be better and even that does not stretch as far as Moreno. However, the argument over replacing certain defenders/goalkeeper is almost irrelevant if as you say the tactics and ethos of the team pay scant regard to defensive discipline. I do love our attacking play at times (what fan wouldn't?) but you have to have an excellent TEAM to play the kind of football Klopp wants and I am completely baffled as to why Klopp continues to think we are good enough when we clearly aren't. Who knows, maybe Klopp does realize how shyte we are defensively and believes our only hope is all out attack or maybe he does not have the tactical nous to get the best out of the squad we have? The only certain thought in my mind is that a supposed top coach should be getting better results with the attacking talent we have.
Our midfield positions were awful when we were conceding against Arsenal. It was clueless and is very coachable.....so we have to assume that he does not pay the defensive side of the game it's due diligence.....if it were one game, then it can be the players....clearly the problem is systemic and thus, the problem sits with Herr Klopp.
Our problem is we don't have anyone that's good at organising the defenders. We need a CB with that skill, he doesn't even have to be the best CB, just a clever one that can organise others. A Carragher type is what we need. He wasn't the best but could sort the other idiots out.
And a quality CM that's able to control a game... And a quality DM that can be a right bastard when it's needed...
No going to defend ming but the PL stats say 29 saves. We would be a better position if we had a better keeper of that there is no doubt but by focusing on him people are ignoring the bigger problem.
Beyond the front four, our team is ****. However, there are a few that could be polished into diamonds such as TAA, Gomez and Grujic. Said it before, I don't even rate Matip that highly, he's just better than the other shambolic options! In the standard we're aiming for, he’s a squad at best.
Can't fault a thing with that. I've said much the same each transfer window. They can all go bar the front few.
