Not quite right, Mollie's grandma, dad, uncle and aunt are from Hull. I'm the uncle.

I know we’re not quite there yet, but at the end of our (hopefully now not one-off) year in the spotlight that says a lot about how perceptions have changed, both externally and more importantly within the local area.

I have quite a few meetings around the country and, whilst I’ve never been ashamed of where I’m from, over the years I’ve just soaked up some of the ****ty comments people who’ve either never been here or came here once for a Uni interview or whatever made when you said you were from Hull.

Over the course of this year those comments have diminished anyway, but when i’ve been on the receiving end i’ve now started to speak up, politely as you have to in the circumstances, but speak up nonetheless.

God knows we’ve still got things wrong in the city, and no amount of cultural events can bring the skilled jobs that we still need, but we’re really on the up. Long may it continue.

    Hull and proud.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but you can get a DVD called Hull on Film which is pretty good. It covers most of the last century and includes a fair amount of amateur film. Here's a taste
