Nonetheless, I'll give you Newcastle, they are and always have been a very well supported club. West Ham are very much in the 2nd tier of London clubs. Even when they provided the nucleus of England's World Cup winning squad, they were a long way behind Arsenal, Spurs, and even Chelsea in terms of support.

 

So when Les Reed appointed MP in the summer, what objectives were set out for him? Mere PL survival, or a challenge for the EL places, a good run in the domestic cup competitions?

 

Not sure about that, haven't checked but didn't they average around 18-20k in the late 80s early 90s?

I think we may soon discover on Boxing Day just how quickly support for a team can grow. In the late 60s, Leeds emerged as a good alternative to Manchester United as a team to follow by many a youngster the length and breadth of the country. Then in the 70s it was all things Liverpool as nobody else got a look in. Then in the 90s Manchester United became the flavour of the moment and more recently, Chelsea. All the clubs that I have mentioned have a big core support and have managed to attract support throughout the UK during their successful period. It will be interesting to see if City can garner a nationwide support like Chelsea for example.

You don't hear much about Leicester needing a new ground though.

 

Les in appointing MP2. I cannot imagine that Pellegrino would have us above Leicester if only Les had suggested that we should be challenging for Europe.

 

They have actually considered it (despite the ground only being 15 years old). Expansion is a definite possibility:

I believe Leicester are looking to expand is it goes, they certainly have more need for it than us.

 

Performance was awful again today, and its clear that the manager isn’t up to it, and plays such a negative style of football.

For the record, I agree about Davis being under par today and for most of this season, but disagree about him being past it. He is constantly played out of position - he is not, never has been, or never will be, a defensive midfielder. He cannot be played alongside Lemina or Romeu, he needs to play in front. His goals and assists are not comparable to a quality number 10 player, but he offers us good energy and support in those areas. This manager has nullified his qualities IMO. That’s another reason why I want him gone.

 

Bring back Eric Black.....
