Many thanks. Rather more unpleasant than it should have been but given the initial all clear. I have had a hiatus hernia for over 20 years, I have lacked the necessary dietary discipline to help the cause, maybe new year resolution. I have used the offered sedative on previous occasions. Having experienced the alternatives I strongly recommend the use of the sedative for others facing the same checks.
I like the way everyone offers advice on here - but getting to the age where what you have just described will be a reality I sometimes wish they wouldn't ;-) Glad you are ok though!
I'll only be 45 next month and had a colonoscopy a few years ago. I was given no choice but to have the sedative. It's not the only option here, just that it was thought that it was best to reduce the risk of me having seizures during the operation. Good morning all from a wet island.
Morning all, grey and misty, but very mild in this part of the country. Supermarket was heaving yesterday, trolleys overflowing with seasonal sea food and of course mountains of chocolate in all shapes and sizes. With Monday being a family day one does need to stock up a bit, but without a Boxing Day holiday it all seems a bit over the top. Some will of course have saved holiday and will start eating Christmas Eve without much of a break into the New Year. My weight has stayed the same over the year, despite various temporary increases, and I will attempt to keep it at this level over the next week.
The consultant said 80% use the sedative for the colonoscopy but only around 60% for the gastroscopy. The medical staff can certainly do more procedures if they do not have patients recovering from sedation, it may be one reason for the rising non sedation figures although the choice was unfortunately mine. You live and learn.
mm.nasty.. I managed n gastroscopy with no sedative a couole of years back as i needed to drive etc... took deep powers of yogic meditation whilst wearing sandals
Morning all. Grey but very mild and dry in rural France today. The large supermarkets are open today for the last minute shoppers, but I will not have need of them. Some of the locals have their Christmas dinner starting about 10.00 pm tonight, and it will go on throughout the night. Families get together for such events, rather more than for New Year when a similar feast takes place, but more often with friends. A French family meal can leave you unable to eat much for a day or two after it.
I heard today that the average adult food and drink intake will be 5000 calories tomorrow. I am dusting off the walking shows once I have posted this!
Most people in Germany have their Christmas Dinner on the evening of the 24th as well. How will Brexiters be eating Christmas Dinner - will it be Brussels free ? Come to think of it most vegetables are not, originally, native to the British Isles - not even spuds and carrots (the orange carrot being a Dutch innovation). So will they be tucking into turnips ?
I have heard from some dentists that viagra is now being used in place of an anaesthetic for some operations (for those afraid of needles or gas) - it gives you something to hold onto when they remove a tooth.
We have quite a lot of very good EU free range food. Think I will stick to it rather than unlabeled imported stuff from goodness knows where. My own vegetables are very good, but there are some great sources at this time of year to buy really fresh ones when mine are not available.
