I think you guys are getting the wrong idea. I meant that Fonte has scored more for us then Fontaine had done in 195 appereances for Bristol City.
It will be confusing with Fonte, Fontaine and Forte - put together with our collection of defensive Dans (Seaborne, Butterfield, Harding and Fox) !
Fontaine on the ball, knocks it to Fonte, cross-field to Fox, through-ball to Forte, and Forte tucks it away.
Do you honestly think Maynard won't go though? I know it probably won't be to us because we won't pay a ridiculous fee, but the fact he hasn't signed a new contract yet seems to me to mean if BC refuse to sell him he's gonna walk for nothing next summer...
Yes, but if City can afford to lose the money it may be worth it to them if they have ambitions this year. I'm sure with the hope of promotion (and all the money that entails) NC would hold onto Lallana if he was in his final year.
Sorry, yes you are right they may keep him, I was just saying that it seems quite obvious that he's going to leave Bristol City sooner or later.
Back to Fontaine... He is apparently also in the final year of his contract and we bid on Monday and were rejected, now have reportedly bid £400k and is being considered. Good business at that price me thinks...
Anyway, back to reality - Seeing as Fontaine is out of contract at the end of the season and all transfer activity at Southampton is carried out in secret, I strongly suspect that these stories are coming from Fontaine's agent in an attempt at getting his client a new contract offer from his current club. By claiming the club at the top of the league is interested in him, might kick Bristol City into offering new terms.
Back to Maynard I am amazed that people are suggesting that we or anyone is bidding £4-£5m for a championship player in his final year of contract - it is just not rational. Shane Long went to West Brom for c. £4.5m - not comparable IMHO. We bid £2.5m for Beckford, Leicester bid £2m for Beckford - a EPL player who is getting into their side and (not that I am aware of) is not in the final year of contract. Cme on guys - get a grip!
Yep, I would be annoyed if we wasted £5m on Maynard, as I have said before. I bet if you put Barny and Maynard in the same team and fed them the same chances, Barny would probably get you more goals over a season. Dont see whats so great about Maynard.
Well I think Maynard is better that Barnard its just the figures being banded around on here are delusional - I can remember Mickey Owen selling to Real Madrid for £8m as he was in the final year of contract...
