I think it was because it was using excessive force. It was from behind and likely to cause injury. Fair enough imho. The Hogg 2nd yellow was a joke, I thought. A foul, yes. But not even a talking to, let alone a card. Was he subliminally evening things up? I think Oliver is the best Prem ref, but everyone is human. Their first goal, ridiculously offside, sack the lino. I do think it's tough being a lino these days, but bloody hell, that was obvious. The penalty is what I really wanted to talk about. I don't think for a second that Terrier lad wanted to win the ball. He saw an opportunity to run across the Watford player's leg and "win" a penalty. THIS is the current scourge of English football. Yes, there is contact. But it is sought by the attacking player solely in order to gain a penalty. There should be retrospective banning, I strongly believe, to rid the game of this type of CHEATING. I think we all know a certain Eagle who's rather good at this, too, eh? Diving is old hat - this is the weapon of choice of the modern cheat.
Must have been a Sky mistake and maybe we might have well stuck Hughes on - least he would have had a excuse for basically doing nothing. Yes that penalty certainly was soft in the extreme and there were a few other incidents of diving but the West Ham guy seemed to be excused by some as they said the defender went to make a tackle... No real mention of it though - guess it didn't really matter but one day an incident like that. Mind you he gave out a few soft cards/decisions - just look at the red cards! Another example of tackling going out of the game? No wonder Holebas tried to claim a foul....
It's not the scourge of English football, it's the scourge of World football. It'll be interesting to see how many free-kicks are "won" in El Clasico on Saturday.
The ex ref on Sky seems pretty adamant Deeney had to go: He wasn't asked about the offside goal or penalty plus Hogg's red card though. Dermot's verdict: Correct decision. Dermot says: This deserved a red. Seriously I'm not joking and defending the referee here! He has just thrown himself into the challenge and I think actually he even expects a red card for this. The speed of it, he's out of control and there is no concern for the player that he has made the tackle on. He has no grounds for argument there.
How many years before the rules are changed and a player has to go and ask for the ball politely because you have had it long enough and it is our go now
Well, your hope was all in vain. Where has it gone wrong? Has the 'Silva to Everton' media driven saga ruined what you had and caused heads to drop? Or is it something else.
Where do I even begin? Nope, not going to bother other than 1. first goal offside, several times over; 2. Never a red card unless it's Deeney. 3. Great strike Doucouré and 4. Never a penalty unless it's Oliver. All of which has been said, more or less, elsewhere. Off to Brighton on Saturday and I fear more of the same unless the players sort their heads out.
Michael Oliver just given a yellow to Alli for a tackle. Deeney’s was no worse and in some ways better because Alli didn’t get anything on the ball. Same ref, no consistency.
