Went to see the new Star Wars Sunday night, thought it was very entertaining and liked it ... thoughtful, spectacular, funny, self-aware, appropriately silly and cute, visually really impressive/amazing at times, great music, nice succinct exploration of the character arcs which are developed throughout it through use of the drama and story Did have problems with some aspects of it, some of these flaws are more serious and some are just there because that's what star wars is and how that particular world works
I saw it last night. was ruined for me before we went so couldn't enjoy it. first off its too long. second it apes prior movies third the story to get to the bit that were good if I hadn't had it ruined were paid. they phone up someone like.. but how and ever.. it is what it is. about 30mins too long and thry have a huge problem cos they forgot to kill of Carrie Fisher.
The more I think about it the more I dislike it really It's so overwhelmingly stuffed full of everything 'star wars' that they could think of throwing at it that it's difficult to know how to feel straight after, I think the strategy was just inundate audiences with spectacle and content and hopefully something will stick with everyone and mask the gross inconsistencies and mis-steps Having had time to think about it the problems seem more memorable than the good stuff which was quite superficial Most of all I disliked this post-Marvel tone that all these action films seem to adopt nowadays, this semi-ironic, comic, light, witty, kind of clever clever bantering tone. It undermines the epic-ness of what made the originals compelling and trivialises the story. Why can'y cinema still be serious ?? Well one answer I'd give is because audience attention spans and ability to process serious plot have diminished in the age of social media, smartphones and tech so films cater to this. Watching a serious film is too much like reading a classic novel for most people, they're not interested in it and see it as work.
that's rich for this thread's normal standards and the fact there's a dedicated cricket thread on this forum after the ashes
As long as there are no lines crossed, if someone metions that the Ewoks are not realistic I'm kicking off.
There were too many "jokey" moments trying to be slap stick so they felt forced not just natural. there is one scene where a certain object gets shown and its just stupid. it should link to the prior movie and the moment they made of it and it doesn't work for the character or characters nor does it even anything to the motives or emotions supposed to be at play. There were 2/3 real scenes which were absolute top notch stuff. A certain lightsabre battle for example. certain battle scenes. I agree with you. The point is certain about of suspension of disbelief regarding theses things. i.e ok lightsabres exist and the force exists great ok.. park that.. if you can't just get out of the cinema right then but the rest of the thing should be a character would do this in this situation not something slapstick. this is serious business like... There is one scene with a wookie having his dinner for example. 153mins long movie. 2.5 hours call it. it added nothing. it was not funny. if anything it was actually unfunny.
Rule #2. Don't break the main surprise, that Jar Jar Binks is really the last Jedi from the title. Or talk about the sex scene between Jabba the Hutt and the corpse of Han Solo.
I saw and appreciated it. But just in case something does slip, it would be safer to use Spoilers. Think early Jan is a decent amount of time for people to have seen it.
Wait until no longer on cinema. I'm slow... Actually, I'll probably watch it next week. Hate going to cinema... Ones in US have sticky floors, aeroplane spacing and you have to go early not to get stuck in a crappy location.
@Skylarker How you getting on with PUBG? Was on it until 2am this morn but my best was a 6th, really enjoying it You done the big update?
Lads recommend your classic christmas movies !! Mine is a modern classic ... Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
