you can be the new city or the new chelsea but you cannot be the new man utd, the new arsenal or the new liverpool.

Its a new money v old money argument. If barnsley can attract neymar and then build a fabulous world class trinaing facility and stadium etc etc fine, work away. you are the next man city. Nothing wrong with it.

but its the same argument for real madrid, barca, ac milan, inter bayern etc etc. a wolfsburg type club can be bought up but they can never have the history of legends cos it takes 50 years to build them.

History (in terms of winning silverware) has to start somewhere, the City/Chelsea argument is old hat these days because they are according to the governing football bodies within the financial rules, City and Chelsea are rich within their own right these days, the initial financial boost they got to establish themselves will happen to more clubs in the coming years(Newcastle and Barnsley for two), and then we have the "live within your means" clubs of which we are one.
Football evolves for better or worse and whether we agree with it or not we have to accept and compete, I admire our owners over Barca/Couthinho and hope they do the same if Real come in for Salah but if they have to spend more than they would like to to keep up with the money clubs they will have to or have to sell on to someone that will, it's just the way the game has evolved, we missed the boat when the Prem came along and we're stuck n the "bootroom" era, I hope we don't make the same mistake twice.
