Griezmann posted this pic of him in fancy dress today and twitter is melting down calling him a racist.

I also saw this pic on twitter of someone at the darts dressing up as Diane Abbott:

Personally i’m Not offended by either pic but society is now full of people who may be.

I find the 190 score funnier than the outfit.

Blacking up is skirting pretty close to the edge of what's acceptable in fairness. I don't think they would have meant any harm and it's probably more insensitive rather than racist?

Think the Griezmann one is offensive because its adopting racial sterotypes. If I am an nba player I must be black - if I am black I must have an afro.
No problem with the Diane Abbot one - the joke wouldnt work at all if you didnt know it was meant to be her.

The world is changing fast and for me, 'blacking up' or 'black face' as the PC brigade like to call it, seems pretty unnecessary to me.

I doubt that there is racist sentiment behind either of these incidents, but its pretty obvious that plenty of people will be offended............. especially on behalf of other people.

Pretty surprised at Griezmann. I'm sure he's not thinking he is being racist but surely him or someone close to him must of thought that was a pretty dumb idea

This is stupid and insensitive but is it really racist, if racism is the hatred of other races then no but as has become the norm these terms are used to encompass what is really insensitive behaviour as opposed to actual hatred.

Are there any black people on this forum? I'm interested to know if you think the pics are racist or not.

Get a bloody life you snowflakes. Diane Abbot is a joke to start with so if you are going to imitate her with her knowledge of numbers then you need to look like her. I am sure neither picture is meant to be racist.

Just ill advised in my book.
You would think that someone would have taken him to one side and posed the question, is this sensible mate? It may cause offence to some.
Perhaps as with many rich and successful people the hangers on or entourage are too frightened to lose their cushy number by telling these so called stars the truth.
Not racist in my book but likely to offend.

If there are we can all post potentially racist remarks and photos so that we can easily determine which they find offensive.

I wouldn't say Griezmann is being intentionally racist, but you can be racist unintentionally. Far more people are racist without thinking about it than go out of their way to be. As for the other guy, it must have occurred to him how it could be received, but he probably just thought "**** it, I'm going to the darts, it's all white men there anyway". Much in the same way the company who posted the photo probably assume their customer base is just white guys.

I wouldn't expect anyone here to understand though, everyone knows Geordies are thick as ****.

I am not black but l was married to a black guy and have two children with him.
Well l say black, his dad was from Jamaica and his mum was white and from Gloucester.
Back in the day he was referred to as a Half Caste, then it was decided (by who l don’t know) that he should be referred to as Mixed Race, this was the term my children were mostly associated with.
Then that was also changed to simply Black.
However, many “Black” people didn’t relate to that term and so in came Duel Heritage.
Not sure what the latest PC term is but that was my experience of the various labels afforded my ex husband and my children.
Well those were the polite ones, if you want examples of true racism and discrimination and l can give you plenty both full face blatant and the more sinister institutional hidden kind than l ought to be able to.
Two prime examples of everyday stuff, one from the 70’s and one from the 80’s was when l went to view a flat on my own. My hubby was being discharged from the Army and l was looking for somewhere for us to move to.
The flat was grotty but the guy told me the whole building was being renovated to a high standard. As l was leaving he added, oh, another good thing about this building when it’s finished is that there wont be any Wogs in it.
I bet he wouldn’t have said that to my hubbys face.
The second was my daughter coming home very upset that she hadn’t been given the role of an Angel in the school nativity play because she was to dark,
Angels are white with blue eyes and blonde hair, but she would be a great Robin. Yeah l know, but it did happen like that.
Times have changed and so have some attitudes, you cannot legislate those who truly want to hate, just stop them voicing it as much.
I am all for people being mindful and respecting difference, but when it goes too far, l fear it does more harm than good and simply serves to trivialise a serious issue.

My wife is Indonesian. When she was looking for work in the UK she told me that she thought a lot of the people interviewing her were racist because she wasn’t getting any job offers. I tried to make her feel better by telling her that I didnt think they were - it was just that she was stupid.
