He came out with that laughable comment last January and I think a lot of Charlton fans lost a bit of faith in him as a result. To think that clubs in the Championship demand a “Charlton premium” when Meire comes on the phone (having dialled a wrong number)
Fair enough Clubs knew we had the Lookman money, but unlike us, they didn't know RD wouldn't part with a penny of it.
At the recent function where Curbs and SCP chatted to Charlton fans, there was a spontaneous outbreak of laughter from the Charlton fans when Curbs suggested that we had a good chance of going up this season "if the owner backs Karl in January".
We've got the new Patrick Vieira to step in. Robinson's quote about being brave because he had the courage to play the kids was bizarre- that was in the Checkatrade ffs. Dijksteel and Aribo have hardly had a look-in all season, and KAG has been rewarded for his 3 goals in 3 by being an unused sub. Charles-Cook has been brought back- to play in the Checkatrade only, despite reports that he has been outstanding at Wycombe. Robinson knows the score, he's here to put the youngsters in the shop window, so he's be better doing that than moaning publicly about Roland suggesting he does exactly that. Who knows, we might even score the odd goal in the opponent's net.
One thing is for certain. Three or four kids in our starting XI for the rest of the season means we are going nowhere. Indeed it's a blessing we already have 35 points. Even with the teenagers we should be able to average a point per game for the rest of the season. Expecting them to sustain a promotion campaign however is just idiotic. If it's to be the youngsters, then it's League One for the forseeable. And we can begin counting down the games until this seasons performance crosses the line on the graph and becomes poorer than last season's.
The youngsters probably wouldn't do any better than what we've got, as long as Robinson sticks to 4-2-3-1. I reckon the only reason Magennis is stuck up front is because he's the biggest. I can't even see the January window improving things if by some miracle Roland does back Robinson. His bubble has burst.
With the “takeover” looking to have stalled again , the sum total of our transfer activity in Jan will be a short term contract extension for Best. You don’t get a Manager to jump through hoops to get Best for 2 months - as RD has just done - if you are planning to splash the cash in January.
Someone on CL suggested that Best's wages were paid by Richard Murray. Seems feasible, it was Murray who told Robinson he could get Best for 2 months. After January Jeddez and BB may well be the only 2 apologists left.
Talking of Burt Jeddez, his loyalty to Meire really has no limits. Having suggested that non specific heads will roll if we don’t go up, he was then directly asked if Meire’s head should roll. “Not up to me mate” he replied.
Jedez is as relevant as a January transfer window is to Charlton. Considering we have a wealth of talent at CB for this level, you'd think going to 3-5-2 would be the way forward. The problem is that KR has openly admitted his admiration for wingers and he doesn't look like changing that opinion any time soon. I think we need to be a bit more bold with Reeves, and have him as a second striker, but unless we have a predator in the box (that definitely isn't big Josh) then I don't think even then we will see the best of him. We knew we lacked depth, but we now look unbalanced.
