A samurai sword expert took his own life using his weapon in the traditional act of hara kiri. Alun Jones, 51, was found by his mother Margaret on the floor of his bedroom covered in blood.

The inquest heard that Mr Jones had died from lacerations to the heart and liver after stabbing himself in the stomach. Gwent senior coroner David Bowen said: ‘He had a collection of samurai swords which he sent to a specialist in London and had been returned days before he was found dead. ‘He was found with the samurai sword underneath his body and I am satisfied it was self inflicted. ‘In Japan the samurai tradition is called hara kiri. In this country it is suicide.’

Interestingly the tradition of Seppuku involves a second person as there must be strict adherence to the act which requires the victim not to make any sound. The katana (long sword) is not suitable and the shorter tanto blade is used. The other person acts as a second and is there to silence the victim if he is about to make a noise during the ritual. Sometimes, but not always, this may involve lopping the head off.

A YouTuber who insulted a notorious Mexican drug lord was found dead with 15 gunshot wounds. Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales shared a video mocking Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as El Mencho, a cartel boss with links to drugs baron Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. In a clip, he was heard saying: ‘El Mencho can suck my dick’. On Monday, armed men burst into the party Lagunas Rosales was at with friends at Mentados Cantaros in Tlajomulco in in Culiacan and shot the social media star dead. The popular internet personality, who went by the nickname El Pirata de Culiacan, gave away his whereabouts by tagging his location on Instagram.
