Morning all. Bright and frosty start to the day. The forecasters said no frost overnight, but with a clear sky I thought otherwise, so lit the greenhouse heater. It is tiny, but just gives off enough heat to keep the frost out. Mme wanted her car to go out, and as she hadn't used it for a week, and only then for three miles, it wouldn't start because of a flat battery. Half an hour on the charger and it is going. Frost removed and she is on her way. Hot coffee now to warm myself up.
Morning all from a wet and windy rural France. After the very long dry summer we are now playing catch up on the rain. My water butts that were nearly empty a month ago are now nearly full again. The frosts and winds have left the trees bare of leaves, so it now looks like winter. When I was young fields would be ploughed after harvest, then would sit there until spring sowing, but these days they stay green with winter barley or something similar.
Good morning all from a cold and very wet Weston-super-Mare. I have no option but to venture out into today's downpour as I have a dental appointment at 0910 which is two bus-rides away Have a good day!
Morning all, sunshine and showers forecast for today, but it feels quite mild outside. Spot of Christmas shopping today, made tolerable by a spot of lunch somewhere.
Morning all, bright and breezy here with more rain forecast. Last night we had very heavy rain and I lost my TV signal from the satellite dish. Having checked today when it was light enough that the dish had not moved, it hadn't, it starts to get more complex. There is something called a Diseqc switch that changes from the French to English TV LNB's on the dish, which is housed in a small box. I found that it was full of water, not good for electronics. I have dried it out, but suspect it has died as still no picture. Call out to repair man, who has a mobile number, and of course was not answering, so leave a message and now have to wait.
I read that BT and Sky are joining forces to share their games. They say it is needed as on-line competitors are starting to get a foothold in the market. I can only think that this could be bad for subscribers as it will create a monopoly of sorts for pay to watch TV and the price will go up still further.
Morning all, sunshine and clouds here today and not that warm. First TV man I spoke to was unable to come, but second one said he would be here today between 1.00 and 2.00 pm. He arrived at 10.30 am as his first job didn't take very long. 15 minutes later he was on his way again having put a new Diseqc switch in and I can watch TV again. Now waiting, but not holding my breath for a roofer to come and replace a broken tile. He came two years ago, and said he would pop back that afternoon to replace it. Phoned him again and he is supposed to be coming this afternoon. The trouble is that there is too much work for many trades, and they take on more work than they can handle. It is little wonder that the DIY business has flourished over the past 15 years, something that was not that common when I first came out here.
Sunday lunch week today. Gave the kangaroo fillet with pepper sauce a try. No doubt it is common in the BB household, but I have never had it before. A cross between beef and venison I think, but not easy to describe. There are plenty of places in France that keep the animals, but not sure that they are farmed here, or if the meat is imported.
