mannone was too injury prone for my liking. Good keeper, but no use if you're only going to get 25-30 games from him. I'd rather have Guzan. In fact I'm amazed that the loan players that performed well weren't automatic targets. They'd shown what they can do, knew the majority of the team etc. Signing the rookie Gulasci was a major dropped bollock IMHO.
agreed ^ the sad thing is that AP came out once last season ended and said on the radio that we are interested in Guzan but not if Villa want a fee... like they were just going to let him leave for free ? would have been money well spent i think, i doubt they'd want too much for him.
the problem with Guzan is not his age or experience or the wages. GUZANS work Visa in the UK runs out in summer 2012 (was on Villa's website last season) and as things stand he wont get another one issued due to his lack of USA team apperances. so why should city pay a fee for him ? his is the No.2 @ Villa at the moment to Given. Minnone showed his true colours in the Middlesboro home game last season. City dont need that kind of player. Its very harsh on Gulacsi after just 3 games, IMO......... city need goal scorers full stop. that has to be the priority.
if the goals were going in at the right end the few that Gulacsi has conceeded would hardly matter. its the lack of goals that have highlighted PG performances at the moment. Pressure ? what pressure and after only 4 games in ?
Yes of course but that's where the pressure comes from. How about Stuart Taylor at Man City or Tom Kuszczak?
Except that Guzan played that game (and I didn't think he was at fault really). Gulacsi is clearly a good 'keeper, he was Liverpool's number 2 last season and they've loaned him out to try and make him the next Reina. For whatever reason it's not worked out between him and City yet, but it'll be an extremely bold move on NP's part if he does send him back to Liverpool at this early stage. If we do get someone else I'd be happy with Guzan or Mannone, though I expect if they were available at all we'd have signed them by now instead of Gulacsi/Basso.
Guzan didn't play in that game, Mannone started and when we were 4-1 down at half time, he was replaced by Duke.
I remember that now, he went off having injured his shoulder (maybe that was what the poster I quoted was on about in the first place). I don't know why but I vividly remember Dawson diving in to knock the ball past the helpless Guzan for Arca to tap it in. Clearly I made the bit about it being Guzan up
