I think that sometimes people get an over-expectation of programmes like Detectorists [not saying you did Jasper, just using your post to make my point]. It is billed as a comedy programme, but it is one where the laughs come from deep within. It's almost tragi-comedy. In fact, it's almost tragedy period sometimes. Detectorists creeps up on you. If you have any affinity for sunny days in Summer, bees and wasps buzzing, nature in all it's complete splendour, with that balmy air that only really comes for a few weeks in the UK, then Detectorists is for you. It absolutely captures those moments. And as said before, it is about love, companionship and friendships. Pathetic ones and ones totally valued. Dreams broken and realised. It was quite simply brilliant.
Also brilliantly acted....you can see thoughts crossing their faces....sometimes silence is everything. And quintessentially British.....warm and eccentric. I concede it may not be for everyone....though sometimes all you need is to give it time....may not be graspable if you just dip into it.
Looking to the future, Mackenzie Crook has shown with Detectorists that his writing and directing skills deserve to be backed with other projects. I have no idea where his imagination might take him next, but I’m already looking forward to it.
How do you shoot a man with a knife ? Surely you would need a gun ! https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/worl...airport/ar-BBGMKMr?li=AAmiR2Z&ocid=spartanntp
**** TSS! Why couldn’t I have used these words when my wife asked me what I was making all the fuss about? Instead my, “Well its a couple of geeky blokes wandering around a field with metal detectors,” didn’t quite inspire her. Bless her, because she did show a little interest and asked me what they find. “Tizer ring pulls” didn’t quite entice her in either.
Exactly Fran, which is why when a couple on here and a couple of mates we’re going on about it, I resolved to do three episodes. Hooked me.
Tom, A customer works in the heart department at Southampton General and says the most common response to heart bypasses is feeling fantastic afterwards once the post op care is over. She says the operation is completely routine these days and transforms lives. My father in law had a heart valve replaced and a bypass and (so far) it's extended his life by ten years. All I will say is be prepared on the day of the op for him to look very ill indeed but after that you'll notice an instant change in his energy and colour. Vin
