No, you usually get the booking fee refunded too, ticket companies are insured against cancelled events so they make money regardless.

I went to the O2 once. You needed binoculars to see the act. There comes a point when you think venues and promoters are taking the piss. O2 ...never again.

I liked Phoenix Nights and Car Share; his other one-off stuff is hit and miss. His early interviews were good and now they aren't, they're crass. Each recording I have seen of his stand-up tours has been fresh and funny; enjoyable, even without the venue atmosphere. His failing is the repetition in between (8 years!) - a problem for most stand-ups, which is why they disappear for long spells or try other things - usually not well. I would have thought a new tour would have been original and funny, as long as you don't keep watching it, or bits of it.

Don't assassinate the messenger. I was talking to someone who said that she had seen him several times. She mentioned the garlic bread gag, his grans mobile phone etc which she said he just repeated.....Which is why I said...'I understand...' which suggests I haven't seen his act. So you're correct on that score.

I saw Billy Connolly in Chicago about 7 years ago, he was good , but not as funny as I hoped. The locals just didn't get it

I saw PK respond to 'garlic bread' shouted from the audience in Sheffield on the last tour, it wasn't part of the show, just an ad-lib to his most well known skit, I've seen the last three tours, they were all new stuff from start to finish.

Billy Connolly is way too funny for 99.9% of Americans.

I'd argue more people know the whole Garlic Bread thing from Phoenix Nights rather than his stand-up.

I don't pay a booking fee if I don't go to see him so your comments are lost on me

Connolly was telling a load of stories about Brits, most of whom the Yanks wouldn't know from Adam.

I heard a number saying they just didn't get it, and that it was too British.....I had to agree.

Her indoors had bought tickets for my eldest for Christmas.

Being the great Dad I am I’ve just told him that we had tickets to go and see Peter Kay , he was ecstatic. Closely followed by the fact he’d just cancelled the tour.

His face, not so much <laugh>, more:emoticon-0106-cryin.

    Made me laugh anyway.

Thought first series of Car Share had its moments. Second series was poor.

Who gives a **** what the Yanks think is funny?

Billy Connolly is the funniest stand up of all time.

When you paid about $60 and it wasn't about anyone they knew then some (not all) had a right to be pissed off. Its like me going to see some Yank comic in Hull and all he/she does is talk about people I have no knowledge of.

They didn't know he was British? They knew nothing about his act? But they stumped $60...

been to the O2 twice this year. both times in the standing area no more than 5 or 6 back from the stage. great experience both times.

but I agree with you on the seating. the ones at the back are in a different postcode.
