    Mata Reveals Prem Snub - Sky Sports

    Select quotes:

    "I want to come to England to win trophies - and that's why I accepted Chelsea's offer," Mata told The Sun.

    -

    Whilst Mata says silverware is the main reason he opted for Chelsea, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp insists he moved for financial reasons only.

    "We were in for Mata and close to doing a deal. But he didn't come and Chelsea came in," Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

    "Obviously they can blow you out of the water wage wise, and then he changes his mind and they get him. It's all about wages."

    ~~~~~~~~~
    It's hard to dismiss Harry's point here. If it's true does it mean Wenger is exonerated?
    Show me a player who wants ''trophies' and I'll show you a greedy bastard.
    Of course its about money. Nothing wrong with that either. You guys arent telling me that in your job you would stay loyal to your current company on £40k a year when a company comes in offering you £120k a year?
    Mata is more likely to get paid more and win trophies at Chelsea, so I don’t blame him for going there at all. I’m just saying that maybe Wenger can be excused for not managing to bring him in if it was because the club couldn’t offer enough money.
    As an aside, I’d argue that moving jobs for 3x pay isn’t necessarily as simple a decision as you’ve pointed out, however; there are plenty of jobs and companies I'd like to think I wouldn't do/join for more money than I get now.
    We're losing our appeal.
    Our best players constantly leave the club which shows a lack of ambition.
    It's a slightly different kettle of fish with professional footballers at a particular level. These people aren't on £40k a year but a week which is ludicrous money. You don't need that much ever, especially when you throw into the mix that Spurs would be able to offer up to £70k and Arsenal even more.
    I don't begrudge him saying he's after trophies either because sadly he's right in that respect.
    load of crap
    his agent pulled the plug when arsenal were very close to signing him just because chelsea came calling offering more money which equals more money the agent will get
    in these interviews he gets told what to say.
