As this week is (mostly) Carling Cup Round 2 week, I wonder if any of you had thoughts on where the shocks might happen. Here are the matches to help you choose:

Tuesday: Aston Villa v Hereford, Bournemouth v West Brom, Brighton v Sunderland, Burnley v Barnet, Bury v Leicester, Cardiff v Huddersfield, Doncaster v Leeds, Millwall v Morecambe, Northampton v Wolverhampton, Norwich v MK Dons, QPR v Rochdale, Shrewsbury v Swansea, Wycombe v Nott'm Forest

Wednesday: Blackburn v Sheffield Wed, Bolton v Macclesfield, Everton v Sheffield Utd, Exeter v Liverpool, Peterborough v Middlesbrough

    Thursday: Scunny v Newcastle

I'm going for Bournemouth to beat WBA.

Last season Doncaster came to the Vic and proved that they are the biggest footballing draw from Yorkshire. I think there's a small chance of Leeds producing a shock there.

I'd also go for Northampton against Wolves, given McCarthy's tendency to give up on any match that he doesn't believe will directly contribute to Premier League survival.

My shout will be Brighton V Sunderland; Brighton are on a roll are we know and i think they could pull one out of the bag, especially at home.

Brighton to beat Sunderland, and Sheff. Wed to beat Blackburn. Would love to see Barnet get a result at Burnley - possibly a draw.

Watford to score and beat Brizzle and then to stop of at the Orient in a strange turn of events and beat them in the same evening...it could happen...I'm just saying.

Sheff Weds could beat Blackburn. Also I think Wycombe (at home) could do well against Forest.

I fancy Bournmouth, Bury and Rochdale to pull of shocks from that list

And yet they were still able to attract more spectators to the Vic than Leeds <laugh>

Brighton v Sunderland - Would not shock me in the slightest but might shock the Black Cats.
Bury v Leicester - We have been 'done' at Bury in the cup & Leicester are very hit or miss at the moment.
Norwich v MK Dons - I am always wary in the Carling Cup and MK dons are full of goals
Wycombe v Nott'm Forest - Forest are just not very good so far this season.

I think Rochdale are great value at 11/2. We put out a crap reserve team for the first round last season and lost against Port Vale and I expect the same tonight.

For me it all depends on what teams some of the premiership clubs put out. If Everton rest players i could see Sheff Utd beating them and same at Scunthorpe if Newcastle rest players. I reckon Morecambe might pull off a shock at Millwall. Huddersfield could well win at Cardiff and Brighton could well beat Sunderland. But would either of those last two really be shocks?

Coral have Brighton at the same odds as Sunderland. I'd go along with that, bearing in mind that it's the League Cup and Sunderland are travelling down midweek. Wouldn't be a shock in any way if Brighton go through.

I also said that Brighton would win and if i were a betting man i would have put money on CMS scoring the winner.

Wonderful. Here's a quote from From The Rookery End's blog:

Footnote I: Leeds, when playing away last season, attracted the highest crowd of the season at 14 clubs.

Footnote II: The Watford vs Donny crowd was only 1000 higher than the Leeds one despite the huge ticket price slash. But anyway, this is a rather banal point which isn't worth derailing a thread about.

Well it turns out it would have been tougher to pick games where there wasn't a shock.
