I'll defend any council, Labour, Tory or whatever. They can only spend what they're budgeted and what they collect in council tax and duty of care demands(bylaw) most of it goes into social care which is at crisis point due to lack of foresight, investment and preparation from the the Conservatives. Problem is the Government imo
Aye, well said. They like club committee men, owt for ****ing nowt. Funny how them bastards always seem to have pint tokens in their pockets.
Certainly the Westminster lot take the biscuit and every thing else, when it comes to the perks, after all they are top of the pile, I'll not say what of, as its approaching tea-time. .
Well they're all politicians from Westminster to council level at the end of the day, they'll always pick up the perks at every level and for any party, that's just the nature of the beast the world over. They're greedy people who use their power for personal ends. That will never change sadly.
When Vaux went up for sale the council couldn’t afford to buy the site and it fell into private hands of Tesco’s who refused to sell and the council consistently blocked attempts to build a hyper market there. Then the Mayfair site was traded to allow Tesco to build a significant store close to city centre. The Vaux site regeneration is now underway with class a office space as the first offering on the site to try to stimulate inward investment. The building of the new bridge and the reshaping of St Mary’s Way to create Keel Square makes the Port more accessible for import / export from Washington - all involving the council. The train station is owned by Network Rail who continue to decline requests for improvement from the council and others. Not saying they’re perfect but also don’t think they’re as inept as some would like to believe.
Jeez I remember that now. It was a grand old building! Would've made a great hotel. Reminds me a little of The Balmoral Hotel on Princess St in Edinburgh. Just a little.
It's not as user friendly so tough to throw up some stats. Here's the link with all the pdf links. https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/your-c...ual-report-and-spending/budget/budget-2017-18
See what you mean mate I was just wondering if we have as much as them or do we waste what we do have.
Darlington's is simply presented too, don't know why Newcastle have set theirs out so cluttered and complicated.
Yes right but I think plans were already put in place by the Labour Council - the Tories weren't in charge here for long. This is what is happening to our heritage - destroyed for a cheap land grab and cheap modern buildings. Infact "done on the cheap' is a common theme in Sunderland
The actions of a pretentious Council who want to look important - a common fault in newcastle on all fronts. I must add that I have good newcastle friends.
