missed that bloke like mad on saturday, was talking to my newcastle mate earlier and me and him both agreed if we still had him we would of had a couple before half time. I love Gyan and Sess but for me both of them like to do there stuff outside the box and wonder around, we either need to play a big target man (Ji or Wickham) or sign someone like Benty who knows were the goal is. As we know though players like that do not come cheap
I'm starting to think we might have missed a trick in Shane Long, 4.5m. 2 goals in 2 for wba. Whisper it but he reminded me of a young kevin phillips against chelsea.
Hell of a player but was always going to be a risk! If we'd signed him, Ji and Wickham people would have been calling for Bruce's head.
£7.5million i think, was a club record weren't it. Good player though, doesn't surprise me that he's started well.
Strikers don't come cheap... Still reckon one or both of the new lads will come good....But have we got time to bed them in easily? Either play them, or get another experienced one in, and quickly. Defoe, Sturridge, Crouch, Zamora, Doyle.....there's a few around, if the price is right.
We have needed a new Bent ever since we sold him. I remember Bruce/Quinn saying they would take their time to search for his replacement and I was even behind their decision not to buy someone ****e like Fuller or Piquionne in the mean time. However its nearly the end of the summer transfer window and we have certainly not replaced Bent by any means. Ji & Whickham are for the future and I mean next season not this one, its a massive risk to go into the season with Gyan as the only recognised and premier league experienced striker so I hope its doesnt come back to bit us.
which is the better team? Team for last season, 1st home game. Mignolet Onuaha Bramble Mensah Richardson Elmohamady Henderson Cattermole Malbranque Campbell Bent this season Mignolet Bardsley Brown Ferdinand Richardson Elmohamady Cattermole Colback Larsson Sessegnon Gyan
Very similar but the inclusion of Bent has that team shading it for me. Just read up on the Long deal and it was 4.5m initial rising to potentially 10.5. With all these kind of deals your happy to pay the add ons as it means they've been successful. Let's hope we get that out of wickham.
stronger side yes, however this season first home game goals scored = 0, last season first home game goals scored = 2. our problem is the same as it was after we sold bent last year, not finishing / scoring when we are in our strong periods
Exactly right mate. Does my head in when people say we paid £13m for Wickham... We'll only pay that much if he proves to be worth it...
