Totally agree with you Olof, I was just mentioning the point after all his starts as striker, or even winger, he hasn't been consistent with his scoring as he does go 3 to 4 games without scoring. He got some good service today, even though the game was a bit scrappy, and he took his chances well. Just not sure he's consistent enough to be our regular striker....
Lucky he did that in a game where we scored three and it didn’t matter. If we’d lost one nil he would have been slaughtered
Agreed - and think that the whole luck balances itself over a season thing is true; which is why I think we've been overdue some. Even though I know he's going to do a howler far too frequently I do feel we're better when he's in goal. Not sure what it is but just feel like we're being more ambitious when we pick him and choosing Lonergan makes us feel more like we're settling for average.
At this moment in time I don't think it'd be a wise move to buy him at end of his loan spell, however, if he is still here, and he plays regularly and starts banging'em in then it's cause for a rethink........we also have to think along the lines of, will he be good enough in Prem.
Just got back after an 8 pub bender with xbpod after the game – great bloke. First half it looked like two teams with no chance of getting into the top 6. They probably shaded it on chances, though Ekuban had a good attempt too. 0-0 at half time was right score. Second half, we had already replaced Ekuban due to injury, we were the better team. Deserved the win, would have been relatively easy in the end, but for Wiedwald gifting them the goal. I’m not going to do scores by player, but comments on some of them: In general, our style of play was superior to theirs. We closed down much better when they had the ball. The QPR fans were screaming at their side to close down ‘like Leeds do’. (I was in home stand). Hernandez – wasn’t there and it was very apparent. We need him, and Sais in particular needs him. Sais – QPR fans were terrified every time he got the ball. It was quite funny listening to them. He suffered in the first half from a lack of a good left sided attacker and Ekuban being well shackled. I made the comment at the time too much was on his shoulders, every attack needed him to do the right thing, he had a spell of giving the ball away badly. But he was key to most of our good moves throughout the game. Was a lot more effective when Ekuban’s injury forced Roofe up front and Cibicki onto right. Makes some bad decisions though. For example, tries to run with the ball from deep in defence when surrounded by too many opposition, did it twice and lost the ball to set up dangerous attacks against us. Problem is the third goal came from doing something similar - but from further out with fewer to beat. I hope someone is getting him to see the scenarios were different, and to pick the right tactics for each. Roofe, was anonymous on left, did not help Sais much and team did not click. To state the obvious, he did well when moved. His best position is by far the striker role, problem for him is he will get goals, but if we ever get a top striker (and we need one) to really lead the line, I don’t know where he will feature other than as impact sub. I did award myself the “Penetrating Insight of the Game” trophy for announcing he had taken far too long and blown it, just as he scored goal number 3. Cibicki – liked the way he whipped the ball in quick with no messing. Did it a couple of times and then provided the cross for the second goal. Overall did not see enough to judge, but on that showing he’s probably worth a place on the bench anyway. Wiedwald – fck me. Did produce a good save a minute later which at least shows character, and its true he does distribute to the defenders which makes for a passing game and more Leeds possession. But…. Fck me. I think he’s a bit of a Gary Sprake. They’ll be singing ‘Careless Hands’ about him soon. Thought Vieira and Phillips did well enough, especially Vieira. Our problem was our attacking midfield did not fire on all cylinders until the formation change. Ekuban – did not impress as much as recent games, before his injury. Problem is he did not seem to get that many scoring chances (had one excellent chance, though). Not sure if that was him or the team formation, but my feeling is its asking a bit too much at this stage of his career to be the main striker. Away fans – actually slightly disappointing, against my high expectations. There were plenty of them, but didn’t make that much noise (more than QPR though, obviously) until we went ahead. There was an announcement before half time saying “no alcohol for the away fans” which cheered up the QPR fans. Most on the tube after the game were pissed, mind, so doubt the ban impeded them much.
First of all a big thanks to elland for finding and posting working links to the match. Secondly I only saw (sore for LL) the 2nd half but I thought we were pretty damn good. At one point the overseas commentator even exclaimed we were paying tiki taki...which we were ! Thirdly well done TC...in my opinion he is showing great signs both as a coach and managing the game from the touch line. By subbing 2 players on yellows and then changing to three centre halves he absolutely did the right thing to close out the game. And finally I have been posting that Roofe is not good enough for what we require at this moment. That opinion was/is wrong and he obviously has more to offer to the team and squad than I thought possible. So well done Kemar you did the most important thing in football and put the ball in the onion bag not once but three times. Oh almost forgot...if there is a better player than Siaz in the championship then he must be one hell of a player.
Friend of mine is a Villa season ticket holder, he was far from happy today, he thought Villa were lucky, said Millwall were all over them...
You just don't get it ristac. Philips should be back defending the corner and up marking their defenders on the half way line and been in goal to save it. If he was any good he would have scored 4 today.
I'm just so happy with the win. The first half was crap. Both teams cancelled themselves out. It absolutely reaked of a 0-0 draw. Second half was completely ours. One comment I would make is when Saiz was breaking away, he'd square a ball but there would be no Leeds player to pick it up. We need to sign another quality player to be able to keep Saiz's attacks going
.......effing hilarious Gombawn, you didn't have the balls to take me on, then again, that's normal for you.
And some say LL is the victim of bullying & abuse .... .... or is it people simply replying to his abuse & threats? (Need someone to 'reply' to this for LL, as he hasn't got the balls to take me on, in his words, preferring instead to put me on ignore).
Davy summed it up the best before putting him on ignore. Think you might have been on one of your jaunts so perhaps Davy could re-post it if you ask him nicely!
Sums it up for me as well.but can we please have a fast left back as well.cibicki seems to have done ok.the little one was around yesterday so after getting a perfect stream i missed all the goals.
