They have lost out in the race to be a City of Culture.

Those awarding the prize, won by Coventry, commented on Sunderland's bid.

I think it's a big positive for Sunderland to not win the thing. Of course, only utter **** holes get nominated to apply for the award (just look at the list of candidates in any year), but to win it you have to be the ****tiest of **** holes. So to not win is a major shot in the arm for Sunderland, and not the usual scag head heroin shot in the arm you would usually associate with Sunderland either. Certainly a town on the up.

As referenced above, like Manchester, London etc we aren’t able to qualify for such an award - we are not **** enough.

We got entered in a proper culture award a few years back. Got beaten but that was stiff competition for an award that’s been held by the likes of Madrid, Dublin, Athens, Florence, Amsterdam Etc.

I think it’s shocking that Sunderland again miss out on regeneration but if you lot will take a **** in public...
