Some conspiracy theorists believe that Icke and similar such fantasists actually work for various governments and are used to deliberately spread nonsense theories to discredit genuine ones.
This is the key point for me, problem being is there's always some who will jump to the extremes almost instantly to which some will mock and then you don't get anywhere. I personally don't necessarily believe in many theories individually but more that a lot of we consider 'real' isn't as it seems with governments etc.
How much of a web do people want to spin for themselves ? It's like that classic argument you hear when you ask the proponents of some of these theories for the facts and evidence, and the response is that it doesn't exist because the Govt has deliberately sought to remove and cover up the evidence. That kind of thinking is just a deluded loop of self perpetrating bullshit. It's like saying to somebody 'I can do magic because I've just made that cup on the table disappear' and when they ask where the cup is, you say 'Ah see, proof that I can do magic, because the cup is no longer there' As for David Icke, it is my opinion that he is an articulate fruitcake, who has used his previous fame as a platform for his preposterous ideas. A bit like HIAG on here, in that people will come and gawp as somebody who makes a spectacle of themselves, and in turn they then believe in the hype and it feeds into their delusion.
Spot on. I also wonder how much people like Icke actually believe in what they are saying or whether they are just vultures getting rich on peoples mental vulnerabilities.
I think Icke probably believes the stuff he promotes, as I say it's like a self perpetuating delusion loop that stuff. He's as much of a victim of it as are his followers who egg him on to produce more. It's based on the premise that the 'elite' are trying to hide the 'facts' from you, so naturally the evidence doesn't exist because it's conveniently been covered up. That allows for any sort of explanation to be entertained. Also as @The Liebherr Legacy pointed out, people like David Icke will start with a topic that most people can get on board with, and once he's got people hooked, he will then spin it into something that is utterly incredulous, like the Queen being a shape shifting reptile from another dimension. Unfortunately there are plenty of people who for various reasons either don't or can't think critically about what he's presenting and simply accept it as the truth. Icke is also very good at marketing his books, DVD's, Seminars etc, so it makes him a living. I guess he has to come up with new material also to keep people buying his stuff, so that obviously feeds into his belief system also.

That's convenient given you believe in god. As for me, I look for the delivery. If it's presented as plausible and not built on some warped ulterior motive or politically fuelled hatred then I'm all ears. The fact that I'm not willing to pay attention to some poorly presented fantasy of unfounded guff is more a reflection on my own priorities and that's not just relating to CT's, I do that with people, TV programmes, books, food... everything.
