My take on conspiracy theories: Does the Govt tell us lies, withhold information and cover things up ? Yes absolutely . Does that mean that they lie to us all the time and the alternative explanations provided are the actual truth ? Absolutely not.

Yep, also there's an official secrets act that is designed to keep information from the public. Much of it is because it's sensitive security information that would compromise the safety of UK citizens. Then there is espionage, which every county do. The US say that they don't spy on their own people, that is true, because we do it for them and in return they spy on us and provide us with the information, all part of the 'special relationship'

Yeah, the reason I worded my question that way was because there is disinformation on both sides. I think a healthy skeptical mind is a healthy approach to take, question everything and look at why a certain piece of information is being portrayed the way it is. The problem I have with (some) conspiracy theorists is that they get hold of a questionable issue and then spin it into something incredulous, knowing that there are people who will simply fall for it because it's the alternative view and want desperately to believe it.
