I'm pretty certain that JFK was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald from the Texas Book Depository using that particular rifle and firing off that amount of shots in that time on that November day. As a qualified Marine marksman (not an actual sharpshooter which is a class above) with the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle he was very able to shoot the three shots in time allowed. I'm pretty sure that the 'magic bullet' theory has been widely discredited even among those who think that Oswald didn't act alone. However, as to who put him up to it, thats another story. I dont think he conceived, planned and carried it out by himself. He was probably acting on behalf of someone else. I think that all the 'It cannot be a lone gunman! stuff was promulgated to divert from who might actually be behind the assassnation. Oswald was the assassin and not a patsy.but he probably (unknowingly) had back up - maybe on the grassy knoll - in case he missed or bottled the shooting, though in the event he was the man who fired the shots that killed JFK. As to who was behind it? Probably the 3 main culprits are: 1) The Mob. More for the fact that it was a message to Bobby Kennedy and a sign of their anger and betrayal after they - acting on the behalf of old Joe Kennedy - fixed both the Democratic nomination and the 1960 election win over Nixon. In fixing the elections they were acting on the understanding that their rackets would be left alone much as they had been before the infamous Apalachin mob summit in 1957 (which was busted by local New York State cops and exposed the Hoover and FBI lie that there was no organised national crime syndicate in the US) and Bobby Kennedy's new found zeal as Attorney General in pursuing Mob activity. He was targetting individual mob bosses personally, notably New Orleans boss Carlos Marcello who Kennedy had kidnapped and deported. That it was in revenge for the Bay of Pigs fiasco? Probably not. They were used by the CIA in organising an armed invasion of Castro's Cuba, but they looked on that as a means to launder money and bilk the credulous Feds of Taxpayers cash - that they pocketed rather than spent organising serious armed resistance - rather than holding any political or financial grievance against Castro, though maybe with the exception of Tampa mob boss Santo Trafficante. The mob had largely already written off their casino and vice business in Cuba that was stopped by Castro and were heavily involved in focusing those efforts in Las Vegas. Remember too that vice President LBJ who succeeded Kennedy in the Whitehouse was a very murky, perverted and corrupt individual who was in hock to all sorts of characters and organisations not least of whom where the mob. Under his administration and even though Bobby Kennedy stayed on as AG until 1968, he did not go after the mob between 1964 and 1968`. 2) The CIA. They were badly burnt by JFK's failure to suppply American air support for the disasterous landings at the Bay of Pigs and they did not like him at all. They, possibly with help from their new mob allies, could have had every motive to kill JFK. 3) Castro. In revenge of all the attempts the US had tried to dislodge him. And Oswald had also wellattested visits to the Russian and Castro controlled Cuban embassiesin Mexico City.
