Thought I'd start one of these up again. Here's my personal favourite, as an Arsenal fan. "Theo Walcott. Looks like Lewis Hamilton, moves like Lewis Hamilton". Probably some ITV commentator I think during an England match.
If you haven't seen this.....Priceless "Release the kracken"
Only the ****ing Yanks could do that I've visited my family in Canada on numerous occasions and it's hysterical listening to football commentries
The snooker quote was not 45 years ago and the commentator was "whispering" Ted Lowe The great cricket quote was in an England v West Indies test match and was "The batsman's Holding, the bowler's Willie"
Ted also had many wonderfully funny quips such as " Fred Davis, struggling to rest one leg on the edge of the table in order to reach a long shot, "is getting on a bit and is having trouble getting his leg over". Sheer magic
Best bit of commentary ever - Motty commentating on Man Utd v Arsenal: Lee Dixon is trying to shield the ball out for a goal kick, in the process he fouls the Utd attacker. The ref blows the whistle and Dixon thinks he's won a goal kick. When he turns around and sees that the ref has awarded a free kick to Utd, the camera clearly picks up on his shouting to the ref - 'WHAT THE **** WAS THAT FOR ?' Motty then says - 'Well, that was for the foul actually Lee' ****ing classic can't find a clip of it anywhere, if anyone can, please post it, I'd love to see it again
I doubt very much if it was 1967 as the very first colour TV's were only introduced around then and the cost was prohibitive.I would say black & white TV's were in the majority until the late 1970's.I remember my wife's parents didn't get a colour TV until 1983.You could buy a black & white TV license until a few years ago
I never said it was 1967,you did You must have had a well paid job to have had a colour TV in 1968. Colour TV only spread around the UK as they started transmiiting on 625 lines instead of 405.Where i live colour TV was only available from. 1974.I suspose you could equate the spread of colour TV with the analogue switch off now.We lost our analogue signal in 2009 whilst in other parts of the UK wont go digital until 2012
