Mines orderd for the Thursday and the Friday literally ordered them Monday! See you there I’ll have a few Guinness’s ready for you mate!!
Aye. But only the pink one. You'll need a decent betting bank, an iron constitution and a bit of luck in running for the 4 day session.
Stop showing off. I'll be in the cheap seats. Btw are you at sandown Saturday? I see your mare is entered.
I will be there on Saturday although I think she will run tomorrow at Wincanton instead. Are you going?
Personally, I'd rather eat something unpleasant than attend that farce. Wouldn't even contemplate going until - the maximum attendance was cut by at least half (I’ve have no objection to tickets being increased in line with this), the people attending had to take some sort of ‘test’ to gain entry – I still maintain that the majority currently attending have no interest in racing whatsoever and just go to get blind drunk, prohibition was introduced to the racecourse – with the exception of ‘the owners and trainers bar’, the Clerk of the Course and Racecourse Executive were axed, the new Grandstand was renamed. Says everything that it’s named after some Minor Royal rather than a human or equine great, most of the 'new' races were axed and a true Championship meeting reinstated, the manufactured, unspontaniuos and unimaginative Chelteltenham 'roar' was made illegal, the death penulty was reintroduced for anyone ever uttering the words 'the greatest show on turf', and that ridiculous 'GB v Ireland' contest was binned.
I’m off to consult my family physician, Doc Park, if that is indeed the case. To be labelled a ‘racing purist’ is indeed a terrible malady. Don’t think I qualify yet though. The test must surely be should Altior have run in last terms Arkle??? The ‘racing purist’ would say yes, I’d say ‘absolutely not’.
Was in the club enclosure for Betvictor gold cup day...all very poosh... but will be slumming it in the cabbage patch on Cheltenham Gold Cup day...just going the Friday this year but have Weds to Fri off work...
I’ve no idea where that little outburst came from?!? People are allowed to critique something. It is allowed, you know. Will both be watching on the old magic tellybox and having a wager or two – as one of those bookie chappies once told me ‘the 5/1 winner at a meeting you like pays the same as a 5/1 winner at a meeting that you don’t’. To conclude with those immortal words, ‘You follow?!?’.
That's fair enough but every year you roll out the same old argument . Those drunks that you go on about pay their money and if they want to stay in the stand and get blind drunk is up to them. At least they are supporting the sport. It would be really refreshing to hear something positive from you for a change.
You’ve only heard it in recent years…certainly not every year. I used to love the ‘Cheltenham Festival’. 3 days of the highest class racing in the sport. That is why I am so vocal about the latest reincarnation. It is a total joke, in places, and now a parody of its former great self – you could call the Cheltenham Festival, in my view, the Alan Partridge of horse racing. So many of the ‘new’ races have no right to be run under the guise of such a potentially fantastic event. They are little more than moderate and are diluting the quality to an enormous extent. I want to see the best competing against the best in the best races. Because of the huge variety of races that is no longer happening and almost certainly never will again. I’m also so against the almost ‘freak show’ add-ons like that manufactured, unspontaneous and unimaginative 'roar' (after 3 you must ‘roar’. 1-2…), the tagline ‘the greatest show on turf’ and don’t even get me started on that ‘GB v Ireland’ farce! The current Executive are ruining the event, in my opinion, and it’s because I like and respect the meeting I moan so much about them doing it. I must say though that I disagree totally about allowing attendees to get blind drunk. They simply ruin it for everyone else. Ban the liquor and leave the racing to those who want to watch racing rather than sup pint after pint of lager.
I agree with a lot of what you say I preferred a three day festival. I think the jockey club are milking it to death with the price rises and the restrictions on where and when you can have a drink. I know lots of members that are fed up being taken for mugs. I was chatting to a couple who were trying to get a drink in the grandstand , I said why aren't you upstairs in the members, their response was its worse up there no staff. It's a disgrace and these people pay about £800 for the privilege. I stopped going club/ tatts years ago. I go to the cabbage patch for the festival but I still go.
