Even if we were sitting on oil reserves the size that Saudi Arabia enjoys it will still be ignoring the fact that they are a prominent member of OPEC.

We produce 1.5 million barrels of oil per day, Saudi Arabia produces 10.1. They have a population of 32 million we have a population of 65 million. It only proves your point if a - you make 90% more oil whilst having half the population and b - aim to be like Saudi Arabia

Nope but I asked 'Name me a similar sized country to ours that has taken a decision to actively withdraw from co-operation with its local neighbours and gone alone that has thrived?'

I'm not counting a country half the size of ours sitting on an oil reserves 9 times the size of ours as similar.

Here's 1 for you,how about a country who stopped trading with most of the rest of the world and traded with its close neighbours,Zimbabwe, that was a big success wasn't it.

The only countries that I can think of that have actively introduced isolationist polices are Myanmar (three times the area size of UK) and North Korea (about half the area size of UK). North Korea is the 110th richest country in the world and Myanmar which was the richest nation in the region until it closed it's borders in the early 60's

Yap Zimbabwe is an example of a country that is a terrible economy that is in no way comparable to the UK's current situatuion.

The way I see it is we are not isolating ourselves from our neighbours, we are leaving the EU. We are swapping the benefits of advantageous trade with a limited group to a less advantageous trade with a world wide group. In simple terms we don't only shop at Tesco's because we get points but shop where we like and forgo the points. We can still shop at Tesco's (Europe) we just don't get the points anymore.
